I'd love to see more in the series, at least for inspiration if nothing else.
From my understanding, they were there mostly to test the waters to see if people would be interested in an M:TG crossover, which appears to be the case, hence Ravnica. They might pick it back up sometime again, but I imagine they'll want to push out at least a couple of the older settings first.
I had a Ravnica campaign, and these were super useful for those. I wish they were still being produced, or they did an official Plane Shift book for the MTG settings.
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Seriously? Oath of Heroism paladin, Revived rogue... The current Theros set is all about greek heroes trying to come back from the afterlife.
I absolutely believe it's Theros - we'll get one or two subclasses (like Ravnica), and then a bunch of cool, weird races or subraces (like Ravnica), and a whole bunch of flavor stuff (like Ravnica), and then sometime in late 2020 we'll get Spelljammer or Planescape. Probably Spelljammer I think, because of the heavy psionic flavor.
My guess for the Theros book:
-Oath of Heroism, Revived rogue.
-Races probably including Leonin, maybe Gorgon, maybe Satyr? I'd love to play a Satyr.
-A bunch of magic items obviously, a bunch of statblocks. I didn't play this set tbh
-Feats? Honestly if any book is gonna offer feats, it makes sense for Theros to have some. Might just be wishful thinking.
Ooh, a Theros book! I love the Theros setting, I think they've nailed the top-down design in that world.
My guesses:
15 God statblocks (Theros gods are gods, but I'd guess they're lower on the power scale than someone like Asmodeus who probs won't get a statblock ever - because if it has one, you can kill it).
Maybe an Olympics-type setup (rules for chariot races, etc.)
...Underworld stuff? Maybe?
Thematic legendary weapons/items
New spells, maybe (similar to Encode Thoughts, but could be modeled on iconic spells from either Theros block)
Mythic Odysseys of Theros' is slated for May 19,2020 or so, and recent UA would really make since due to the Ancient Greece like setting and the beyond death theme of the MTG expansion. From everything I read as I do not play MTG myself.
Ravnica was a Very useful sourcebook and easily my go to book when i need a mad scientist lab or a garrison during a Eberron campaign i was running,I can't recommend it enough.
That being said i'm a bag of mixed feelings on a Theros book
Magic has this habit of putting Planes on a shelf it took like 20 years to return to Dominaria
Mirrodin,Kamigawa and Lorwyn are worlds players have been wanting to return to for 10+ years now,Also the Magic Story team is... it's had a few hiccups lately..... and seem to not have a story guy like a Kevin Feige for Marvel or Chris Perkins for D&D type to Helm the ship.
On the Other Hand
Theros has Hieromancy (Law Magic )
Stories/Myths/Belief are power and because of this If you slay a monster when your fame hits a point you'll find elderly people who've heard of you slaying the monster from last week when they were kids Time/Historical Truth is a bit wobbly because of this.
All the Gods are "Jerks" Mortals are just pawns to them Even Kindness by the gods is for machinations said god has going on
I Emphatically recommend KRUPHIX'S INSIGHT a short story from a few years back for a good sample of background lore to help with worldbuilding
And I may or may not have have the following characters waiting in the wings
A Sorcerer with the polymorph spell that just might fun by turning men into pigs every now and again
A Aarakocra Bard with the Sailor background
The Son of Half Mad Artificer who Really Really wants to fly

Eh, it's pretty clearly a marketing thing I think - and that's not the worst thing in the world. The Ravnica book came out during the Return to Ravnica block, now the Theros book is coming out during the Return to Theros block. You're right that the MTG story team is kinda boned right now (for everybody reading this, please for your own sake don't read the Ravnica books) but I think that the DnD story folks are really good at taking ideas with potential and making awesome things out of them. And if it means we get a Mirrodin or an official Innistrad book somewhere down the line, I'm way into it.

I was utterly unaware of this idea and it has CRAZY consequences for a DnD party. I want to run a campaign in this world so badly now, with some properly ambitious players. May can't come soon enough.
EDIT: Pre-orders for Theros book have gone live! Confirmed character options are Leonin, Satyrs, Oath of Heroism (called 'em) among others. Also College of Eloquence, which feels weird for Theros, but more subclasses are always welcome!
Plane Shift
I would love to see this series continue, Theros has new set out now and it would be a great setting. I'd also like to see a Eldrine one.
What other M:tG planes would you like to see in Plane Shift?
Absolutely. Seems like it ended when they made a ravnica setting book. I would pay for more MTG setting books.

seems like the series died when the art books they tie in with stopped being produced

Please check out my homebrew, I would appreciate feedback:
Spells, Monsters, Subclasses, Races, Arcknight Class, Occultist Class, World, Enigmatic Esoterica forms
There was a leak that in may there is gonna be a Theros D&D book.
I don't think it will be Theros for the recent subclasses. I suspect Planescape instead of that.
I would like another book related to Magic: The Gathering, but I'd prefer a setting like Ixalan.

Partway through the quest for absolute truth.
