At least give them a whole week before wanting the ua added to beyond. ^_^
Honestly about the only thing I am uncertain of is the access to a multitude of elemental options chosen on the fly. Not sure it is inherently OP by any means, just somehow feels off. I guess you could use flurry of blows after getting extra attack and have a fist of the four elements type attack. Could be cool.

I think it is a bit much to be honest. Same with the Ranger really.
This is by no means a complaint, but does the Drakewarden seem like a Pokemon subclass to anyone else? Your dragon even goes from charmander to charizard, and you basically keep it in a pokeball most of the time!
I really like the concept of doing a Drakewarden as a STR ranger, maybe with a level of fighter or pally for the heavy armor, really lean into the knight in shining armor motif, but you're a wandering knight fighting alongside a charizard-*ahem*-dragon instead of slaying one.
I also like the idea of the dragon companion being the same one each time, and choosing its type at the beginning for extra emotional investment. They could even lean into the pokemon comparison and have the wings vs water breathing at level 7 decided based off the type of dragon you choose (maybe also including a third or fourth option too).
Choosing the damage output doesn't mean it's a different creature. It's just a creature that can change its damage type. The same way the new Monk can.
You choose damage type only when the creature is summoned/re-summoned. That does not sound like a creature that can just change type the way the Monk can.
The thing is that the UA seems to strongly indicate that it is just one drake. After reading it, I noticed that the wording of the abilities seems to indicate that you are bonded to just one drake. No mention of multiples.
Yes the wording supports this and D&D is known for people picking options when they wake from a long rest. Also... just tell your DM that it's always the same drake. You're allowed to use your imagination to make subtle changes to these things....
I would be so stoke if these subclasses were an indication of a dragon themed book like a Draconomicon. There is so much you could fit in a book for these creature types.
Dragon Lore and Biology
An updated draconic pantheon, as well as showing the draconic versions of the Sovereign Hosts and Dark Six. Maybe even same prevalent draconic cults
Crafting using dragon parts
Dragon themed subclasses
Potential racial variants for Dragonborns and Kobolds, and maybe even racial variant traits for being dragon-blooded
New Dragons like Planar Dragons, Gem Dragons, and Catastrophic Dragons
Maybe new draconic familiars, companions, and mounts
More drake and wyvern options and maybe even other types of dragons like Lindworm and maybe even some draconic hybrids (dragons can and will breed with almost anything)
More creature variant options to really customize your dragons encounters
Lair concepts, Lair traps, and minion charts
Magical items
New spells that dragons and others can use
Ideas on how to use dragons in campaigns
There is a lot of potential!
I actually just started writing a series of exactly this on DTRPG (starting with a homebrew dragon), but looks like I might as well abandon the project, since I predict the next book will be a Draconomicon of sorts. (BTW, all the stats from that book are in the DNDB Homebrew. Just search on my username.)
On the question of what the next post-Tasha book will be (world books nothwistanding), look at the publication history. It’s been monster book, great big book of everything, monster book, great big book of everything. Expect a monster book next year, likely a Draconomicon of some kind if this set is any indication.
That said, the project I cited above was going to have a different subclass option for most classes with different features depending on the personality and abilities of the dragon, so I agree with those who say a character should have to pick one type of dragon & stick to it. While WotC is making a point to say not all orcs/goblinoids/elves/etc. are cut from the same cloth, they seem to be suddenly lumping all dragons, good and bad, together, like “the essence of dragon” is a singular concept. I’d expect the dragons themselves would be the first to differ.
When i first read the material for these sub-classes, my mind immediately went towards a strength based melee ranger. but i went half-plate with shield to give them a similar ac to heavy armor.
edit: and I also envisioned my drake having a more pearlescent coloring that would shift towards colors associated to whatever element that I chose for it when i summoned.

I'm not the most well versed when it comes to M:tG, but that actually sounds like the idea of the drake being a colorless creature that can then be infused with Red, Blue, Green, Black or White mana.
Did.....did you just make the Drakewarden being a M:tG themed subclass make sense to me......is that actually a plausible thing?

never in my life, have i played M:tG, but... i guess i may have inadvertently done that and now i might try to learn how to play.

On a scale of Lesser Restoration to Contagion, how dirty does that make you feel?
Uh....lesser restoration? I don't actually have a problem with M:tG despite not playing it. My group however is very into it and we were incorporating various elements from the Magic worlds even before the official 5e brought us Ravnica and Theros.
It was just interesting that Rotting_Whale's idea reminded me of Ugin the Spirit Dragon who is colorless but can use all five mana types and who's elemental storm magics birthed the dragons on Tarkir. He's kind of like the Io/Asgorath of that plane. So the Drake's could be small manifestations of Ugin's magic that you can manipulate into the five mana types, or five elemental types when translated into D&D.
Honestly it could just be a coincidence but still, its an interesting thought at least to me.

It could be possible, but there was never a card (to my knowledge) that did anything like this. Also, Drakes in M:tG are small wyverns, rather than dog-dragons like in D&D. If they wanted to make a subclass for M:tG, they would have named it differently.

I mean it doesn't explicitly state what the drake looks like. It could be a chicken dragon that runs really fast, rather than a four legged dragon. Could be a very fast snake like dragon thing... ok that was stretching, but at least for this moment there is no limitation on it appearance.

Thank you for giving me an idea for a character: the dragon-chicken riding kobold ranger! But with sincerity, without reflavoring, the Drake is supposed to look like the drakes from Hoard of the Dragon Queen/Volo's, because of Forgotten Realms lore. If they weren't, then they would name the subclass differently. I'm all for reflavoring, but the default flavor is pretty evident.

It is still a summon, not an actual living creature that you are raising and bonding with. If it is dropped to 0 hp, it poofs out of existence. If the timer runs out, it poofs out of existence. Rangers are attuned to the natural world so having a summon as a companion is out of place and I will say as much in the survey.
Reminds me a lot of Guenhwyvar. Love him or hate him Drizzt is a pretty stereotypical ranger.

when do they become available on dndbeyond. I wanna make the ranger for a campaign im joining but im just seeing older Ua material.
As a joke, they should give a character option for 3 kobolds in a trenchcoat in such a book

I'd recommend playing Magic. It's a complex game with an ever-changing meta, but the art and lore behind the cards make up for it.

When will this be put on D&D Beyond?? I would like to start theory crafting!!!
In all likelyhood, next Monday, though it could be longer if they still have other stuff on their plate.
