What's the best build for this? Is this even viable and how does this best work with weapons? I was hoping to make a DEX build based fighter. Looking for advice on starting out at level 3, rolled stats: 18,1212,14,15,12
It’s certainly viable. The dex build is kind of an interesting choice. Lots of time RKs go for grappling, so they want that high str.
But, you want dex, I’d say, obviously put that 18 in dex. Probably the 15 in con. I might go 14 in str, in case you do decide to grapple something.
I can’t say enough good things about cloud rune, and with that high dex, your perm advantage on sleight of hand will be fantastic. And moving crits from an ally to an enemy is about the best feeling. My RK had stone rune. The darkvision and insight advantage was fantastic, though the charm thing didn’t work, but there were a lot of charm immune enemies in my campaign, so ymmv.
Then at level 4, I’d look at a half feat to round up my con. If you’re allowed to use eberron content, aberrant dragonmark is great. I flavored mine like I’d carved a rune onto my skin.
As for how it works with weapons, I’m not sure what you’re asking. Dex build melee weapons typically means you use a rapier. When you get bigger, you add an extra d6 to damage. Note that’s only 1/turn, so when you get your second attack at level 5, you can only use the extra damage one time. If you hit twice, the second one is just normal damage.
Fighting style either dueling or defense, probably.
This edition you could combine pretty much any race with pretty much any class and pretty much any subclass ad it’s gonna be viable. It may not be “optimal,” but people place waayyy too much emphasis on that IMO. Especially with an array as good as the one you rolled.
