Hi everyone, so I have no idea where to post this message/thread too, this is my first time ever posting one of these here on D&D Beyond so please bear with me.
Last night starting at 5pm Central Time (US), I the DM and my D&D group starting as we always had used the Maps tool. We set-up a battle map using the circle, square, triangle and line/rectangular over lays to create structures and what not on our map. Just as we were about to position our characters where we wanted them on the map and as we were about to start the actual encounter, the map completely kicked us out and crashed, this happened between 8pm and 10pm Central Standard Time last night on 9/28/24. None of us were able to rejoin or even get back onto the maps, not even I the DM. Below is the message it keeps giving every time I try to get back onto my campaign map.
"Our steps got out of sync thanks to Otto's Irresistible Dance. Please refresh to help us save our Wisdom Saving Throw!
(We ran into an error while loading the map. If this continues to persist, please contact support.)"
So we tried waiting for the maps to reload after about 30 minuets of waiting we decided to move forward using the old "theater of the mind" for our encounter. The odd thing is, is that we still had full access to our character sheets, and I still had access to my encounter builder and game play page as the DM as well as all of my NPCS. We just could never regain access my map on Maps. It has now been over 12 hours since I logged off of DnD Beyond and I still do not have access to our map on the Maps Tool on D&D Beyond. Would anyone know how this can be fixed and what may or may not have caused it to happen, was there anything I and or my players were doing that could have affected it in any way, or is this just a server issue on the website?
I ran maps for about 10 hours yesterday afternoon to night, and the only issue I ran into was the crashing/timing out. My fix is to try to refresh and restart the campaign but if that don't work, I close out D&D beyond and just restart everything. It doesn't wholly seem like that was your problems though.
Maps is an unreleased in-development Alpha product, I would not rely on it to be working for the purposes of running actual online sessions, at least not without a backup plan.
So here is the weird thing, I can start a new map like a Mushroom cave map or a new grass map, but it will not allow me to get back onto my old map, the one I was using for the session. I wonder if I had way too many NPC's, PC's and over lays on the map...?
I did reach out to them; they have not given me an answer as of yet. I think I might now know what I did wrong, but I want to see how they respond first, to see if my theory is correct.

The joys of helping Alpha test a program.
Congrats on your first posts!
Yeah, I don't really know what's wrong but I think you should probably take this up with the guys in the Bugs and Support forums.
