I used Prestidigitation, Shape Flames, and Thaumaturgy (and another of the "does loads of things" spells IIRC) to make a storytelling character who wove their stories out of fire around them. They were a Warlock, but were definitely going to be taking Bard levels when they leveled up.
Alas, the campaign never got off the ground.
I have considered using Prestidigitation, Poison, and Suggestion to get an enemy to "drink this". If it smells and tastes ok, it's not obviously harmful, so they can do it!
Someone once mentioned using the 1st Level spell, “Catapult” to create a magic grappling hook.
Simply tie a substantially heavy object to a length of rope; then propel the object & the rope will be pulled along with it.
Simple, but effective.
I also enjoy both “Command” and “Bestow Curse”; because they both provide options where you can more or less decide what they “do”.
”Command” has to be limited to a single word, of course…and “Bestow Curse” cannot be too overpowered for the level…but you can get creative (plus, with high level slots, you don’t have to maintain concentration).
“Animate Objects” provides creative uses specific to whatever objects you decide to animate…animated chains or ropes; and you can perhaps magically ensnare a target…animate explosives; and suddenly you are flinging heavy artillery.
One of my favorites is Mage Hand —it can pickpocket, activate traps from a safe distance, or even tie someone’s shoelaces together in combat!
Only if an Arcane Trickster.

I see folks are getting bored here - resurrecting 2 year old posts. I have a bard that likes to use minor illusion and control flames for story telling out of combat. I can’t sing and to avoid the calls for me to sing as the bard in role play he can’t either so he tells stories or recites verse and illustrates them with the spells.

There are many spells available that I feel many players don't utilize because they seem useless or weak.
However, I am of the mind that with creative use of a spell you can do some pretty amazing things.
Mold Earth comes to mind. I have used it to divert water and cause flooding, make trenches and quick pit traps.
Do you have any examples or stories

I once used dream to cast a skittering horror's soul out of its body giving our group time to escape...

The fact that you may choose between different outcomes with "Command" and "Bestow Curse" is another reason why I like using them.
