Hey there incredible D&D community, I tend to run a lot of homebrews and don't really use many pre-made adventures or items. I would like to start creating my own items and monsters using D&D Beyond however it is immensely confusing to me on how to create my items, I am a visual learner but don't mind reading the odd thing or two, is there any guides out there for D&D Beyond and Item creation?? I have looked around and haven't been able to find anything as of yet.
At the moment specifically, I am trying to create a Longbow with a +1 to hit & has a curse & heals the player x amount depending upon their level.
Please be kind, I'm autistic and may not understand some things
I have found that the best way to learn how to set a magic item properly is to start not from scratch, but by copying an existing item. If you go here, you have the possibility to start from scratch or to select an existing item and start from there.
Select the most similar item to the one you want to create.
All that said, the +1 bonus is usually set with a modifier. Create a modifier, with type 'Bonus', subtype 'Magic', fixed value '1'.
There is no modifier for 'curses', that is done with just text in the description.

How do I set a requirement to use the item? i.e I want my item to a requirement of 17 dexterity to use.
I fear you can't. There is no section for prerequisite like that.
Okay no problem, thank you so much for all of the help. So essentially there is a lot of things I want to do but can't. I will just have to make my item and see how it does i guess.

While you can’t currently make it so that a player can’t equip it if they don’t meet the requirement, you can make a note in the Notes field under Additional Info. If you want it to stand out more, place it at the beginning of the item’s description.
The people in the homebrew section are pretty friendly and usually happy to try and puzzle out how to help you get what you’re looking for.

Hi Cameron,

Let me know if something is unclear.
There are some guides as well (though I need to make time to make more).
