All the debates about value and expected discounts aside, since I own both books, is there any content whatsoever in the Wayfarer’s Guide that’s not in E:RftLW? Is there content in the former that I should keep handy, or should I just ignore the former and only refer to the latter?
I haven't flipped through the ERftLW compendium yet, so I don't know either. The table of contents at least seems to cover all the same stuff (and then some).
The only possibility might be that WGtE has more details about Sharn?
In terms of mechanics, as far as I know there is nothing in the (updated, now official) WGTE (hereafter just W in this post) that is not in E:RftLW (hereafter just E in this post)
With fluff/lore/area descriptions, it is a bit harder to tell. What comparison I have done, it looks like E has taken the text of W and “massaged” it, changing the wording slightly and adding to it; sometimes rearranging the order of material in the process. A very cursory look at a few chapters lead me to believe that there isn’t anything in Wayfinders that isn’t in E. This is not how Wizard’s talked about a second book happening: while the mechanics were to be reprinted, the word at the beginning was that if they published a print book, people would be happy owning both, that not all of W would be ported over. None of this, of course, is DDB’s fault. But they are offering refunds for W for those who bought it here and are unhappy.

WGtE talks about how the players may fit into, feel about, or want to do in the city. ERftLW talks about how and what a DM could run (in) the city: events, hazards, organizations, etc.
But I think that is the only notable chapter for WGtE. The other chapters seem to have been reworded and had a few lines removed only to make room for several new sections of additional information.
At best, I can see recommending WGtE as an abridged version for players, where ERftLW is more robust and has several details DMs might find useful for running the setting.

no I am holding the book right now, the WGtE has unofficial content (war forged and kalashtar have been changed) and there is a whole chapter on sharn

eh, it wasn't that expensive so I will just keep it to make my collection complete.
