So I've had a few sessions playing DND with a group online, so I'm getting familar with building characters and playing the game, but I've felt that my characters backstories aren't as developed or engaging as I would like them to be. Is there a group or someone who could help go over my character's backstory or give advice on building a backstory? Thanks!
There’s a whole wackton of folks here who often help folks with backstories. And you can read backstories of other Characters too for ideas and inspiration.
Once you have a backstory understand implementing it in a game is largely the players's responsibility as well. The DM has several players backstories to juggle, their own story, the adventure, the NPC's, the villains and any potential allies. Unless the characters themselves are taking actions that are based on their backstory the DM may not even add it into the game because it doesn't look that important to the player, or forgets about it because they are juggling so much other stuff.
I think the biggest thing is create a backstory that is believable for the lvl your character is starting out in. A lot of peoples very cool, very detail backstories that were linked to are not realistic if their characters are starting at lvl 1. If you're lvl 1, you should not be able to kill hordes of enemies vs lvl 10 you might actually be able to do that.
Now that being said, you can still have cool, interesting details in your backstory that give your dm something to play with. Add in a childhood friend that you could interact with. If you want more party cohesion, work with another player about some mission or adventure you went on that started/ solidified your relationship together. You can have a lot of fun working with other players or your DM to add details to your backstory.

This video here does a good job explaining it.
