I'm still learning the ins and outs of DnD beyond and I was wondering if there is a way I can take class abilities (I assume by copy and paste from player/class stats page) and add them to homebrew monsters? I've been doing it from monster stat blocks so far but some of the things I would like to use I can not find or wouldn't want to go through 100s of monster stat blocks to find what I'm looking for.
It’s your D&D. If you want your monsters to have abilities just like a PC, who’s gonna tell you not to...?
I would copy from the class description pages themselves, and not from a character sheet. The character sheets display abridged verbiage called “snippets,” but the actual description pages themselves will have the full wording of the abilities.
I use Roll20 and Beyond20 with DNDbeyond and use the stat block abilities of my monsters (attacks and spells for example) to click their abilities so they work automatically on the Roll20 page.
I've created homebrew NPCs/monsters by copy/pasting monster stats from other creatures in the monsters manual onto the homebrew monster stats in the my creations homebrew monsters page.
What Id like to do is take abilities/spells/feats etc from player classes and copy/paste them into my homebrew NPC/Monster stats pages so I can simply click them to work on Roll20 through the beyond20 addon.
I'm not sure I have made it sound more complicated or less, but thanks for the response anyway.
I cannot say for 100% certain, but I believe that Beyond20 and/or Roll20 simply look for instances of “XdY+Z” formatting amid the txt and make it “clickable” for you. So, as long as you include some form of “XdY+Z” formatting for the program to recognize, Bob should in fact be your uncle in that situation. And if I am mistaken, someone will likely correct me on that.
Honestly, if it were me, I would just make a “test monster” that I used to try all of this stuff out. You don’t need to publish anything to use it, so you could just keep pasting stuff in and checking it on Roll20, editing it and rechecking, deleting it and pasting new, etc over and over as much as you want to learn what you can do and what you can’t.
