Here is the thing its to hit DC is plus 10 but it only does a d6+5 in damage with each round of attack tell i get sharpshooter feat and crossbow expert that would change it to 11 to hit DC well here it is my question is again is it better to hit big or to hit often my biggest one shot hit is Couse wounds 3 d10 but that is a touch spell i have to be in the thick of it to pull that off so the question still is is it better to hit hard or to hit often?
So, tbh, +10 is not unreasonable with magic items. Especially when they are ranged.
As for your question, that is something that is often debated with people who are much smarter then I doing maths to prove one way or the other. I personally prefer to hit more often then not. More attack roles is the same as more chances for a 20, and more chances to have the caster im attacking lose concentration.
Do you like my PC? For me don't know what is better hit hard or often if your facing a bunch of zombies or kobalds it might work but if your facing a beholder or Dragon you might be in deep crap if you can't hit very hard very quickly
Hit often rather than one big hit. Unless there's damage reduction in play. Damage spread over multiple hits gives better damage distribution vs several weaker enemies, more concentration checks on enemies.
I mean, its a player character. The base build seems realitivly simple, a standard ranged offense. I dont get any information about the way you play your character or their personality or anything from just the character sheet.
Again, im one who prefers to hit more often for less damage then hit once for big damage. Its better with hordes, its better against spell casters and its agruably the same damage against a single target. (What difference is 30 damage to a purple worm if its done across 3 attacks in a turn or a single attack in a turn? Not much.)
If you are worried about your damage, you could speck into rouge. With your high Int and Wis you can take either almost any rouge class and a get sneak attack shot in almost every time of a creature of being threatened by your steel defender(via the help action to give you advantage on your attack and thusly sneek attack). Extra so if you wanted to change your race from a Human to a Kobold and get pack tactics.
Message me privately if you wanted to talk about builds more.
