I’m considering a campaign setting for a future campaign that is set in a bustling city underwater. It’s a bit like Atlantis, with the city being an island that had sunken underwater (due to the fantasy equivalent of global warming).
Im trying to figure out how to modify different races, and adjust the traits to fit how they would evolve after living underwater.
What I have so far is that air and water genasis are now one of the human equivalents (the other being tritons), because of the amphibious nature of water genasis and the air genasi’s ability to hold their breath for infinite amounts of time. Races similar to tabaxi and arracockra are either rare or nonexistent, and any race that would have a difficult time swimming are also rare or nonexistent. Shifters are now separated into different aquatic creatures rather than bears, cats, dogs, etc.
If there are any suggestions for more adjustments (lore, racial traits, etc) that would be great! I’ll also make homebrews of the different variant races after I figure out most if anyone wants to use them :)
Well, Aquatic Elves & Tritons are easy, and Merfolk are basically humans who can swim and breath water. Marrow wouldn’t be too hard to do as a PC race either, kinda like oceanic Goliaths.
If you have access to Ravnica, “underwater adapted” Symic Hybrids are an easy add too. And if you have access to Localath Rising, that’s another easy import.
Sahuagin should also be pretty doable. Kinda like underwater Orcs.
