So one of my players during his private session (because he was kidnapped by a bad guy and now works for her as a double agent of sorts) fought against a Chuul, and won. Now, being a massive Monster Hunter fan, I let him carve three times and he got the Chuul's pincer and part of its hide, with the lowest roll granting him nothing. As of now he can't build anything because he is on a ship and even then he would need a lot of money and wait a lot of time in order to get something back.
This gives me time to think about appropiate effects for Chuul equipment and if it's worth letting the players carve the monster and get equipment by using their parts. I'm torn between making it so everytime someone attacks the player with the shield equipped they suffer 1d4-1 poison damage or just giving them advantage on checks that use Strength while the shield is equipped. The player in question is a level 5 barbarian with access to a special axe that let's him teleport to another place within 60ft up to twice per long rest while the rest of the party have access to equally useful stuff in their own rights.
So what do you guys suggest? I'm hoping to get some bright ideas that further develop my skills as a DM, so thanks beforehand!

I don’t know about a shield, but that pincer immediately reminded me of an IRL weapon called a “man catcher.”
