Pair of artificers trying to help out a party mate. A bugbear barbarian who took a dip into druid likes to use Fog Cloud to help get in his Surprise Attacks. Now Darkvision doesn't do anything for heavily obscured areas, so we were thinking of making this to help him out:
Bulette-Hide Boots (not married to the name)
Uncommon
While wearing these boots you have tremorsense out to a range of 60 feet.
Yes, this is functionally Goggles of Night but for your feet. This would definitely be a full-on sidequest, as we'd need to track down and kill a bulette and procure the services someone proficient with leatherworking tools, as none of the party are (Survival lets you preserve a hide, right? right?) But it should give the big guy a nice edge when he's setting up his ambushes.
It’ll do a fair bit more than that. Tremorsense is potentially very powerful as it allows a creature to sense anything that moves within the stated radius as long as they are in contact with the same substance. That even includes being able to detect creatures through walls, or even on other floor of the same building as long as the same construction materials were used for walls and floors. can include non-horizontal surfaces. What’s more, Tremorsense provides precise locations of the sources of any movement with pinpoint accuracy.
So, you know all those spells and features that specify “…a creature you can see…” for example? Those would still technically not be affected because tremorsense allows a creature to “sense” those creatures, but not “see” them. So you would have to be sure to make the distinction is communicated with the player.
I just wanted to point out though, if that PC casts Fog Cloud, and then enters a fit of Rage, as soon as they use that bonus action their Concentration on fog cloud instantly drops, the spell ends, and the fog immediately dissipates. That’s RAW anyway, if you houseruled that to not be the case, that’s cool. (That’s what DMs are for.) However, if you have not houseruled that…. Just pointed it out for completeness’ sake.
As for the utility of the spell, the point is too free him up to either extend his cover before opening the combat or break detection and try to establish an opportunity to use his Surprise Attack. He only gets to use that once per combat, so once he's either succeeded or failed, he's not planning on using it for cover anymore.

So it needs to be moved up to Rare, then?
