Hi friends, I'm having difficulty with a series of magic items that I'm working on for a campaign I'm running. These items allow the player to cast spells from the item and they come in four stages. Going to format this in a short version followed by long version.
TLDR: Homebrew magic item only gives the character sheet access to the highest level spell that is on the spells that have been added (highest tier should have four added spells). How can I make all four spells show up? (note the item requires attunement so can't just make four separate items granting one spell each)
Full breakdown: So the items are magic runes that a character bears on their body (on a hand or on their head) and as the player grows their connection with the item (based on time, usage, and understanding - AKA DM's discretion) the rune advances to higher tiers, capping at 4. Each tier gives access to one spell. The rune gives them one free casting of the spell/day as well as adding it to their spell list (these are rare items, trust me I know how strong that is). What I've done is created four items, one for each tier of the rune. First tier gives access to cure wounds with one charge, this item works perfectly fine. Second tier gives access to the spell silence and one additional charge. This item does not work fine. Only silence shows up on the character sheet, and cure wounds has disappeared, even though it's there on the homebrew item in the designer. Same issue with tier 3 and 4 (but with the next spell not with silence showing up). I've tried going back and deleting and re-adding the other spells. I also made sure that each new tier has the correct number of max charges and each spell only has a charge of min1 max1. When I first created the second tier version of the item it did show up fine the first time I checked it. Then after I made the third tier, tier 2 and 3 spells were showing but not cure wounds. When I went back to the second tier version it was now having the problem.
I appreciate any help y'all might have to offer, and thanks in advance!
There is a glitch currently in which any spell granted by multiple items fails to appear on character sheets. If you remove the lower leveled runes, it should resolve itself.
