I am trying to create an Aasimar variant in which at level 5, the character can add their proficiency bonus to their Healing Hands trait. However, when I make a character using my homebrew Aasimar, it shows both the original and the new trait at the same time.
Yes, simply remove the Action associated with your 5th-level trait and adjust the level scaling for the original Healing Hands trait to reflect the bonus. So in stead of going from 4 to 5 points @ 5th level it will jump from 4 to 8 points. Then it will jump again @ 9th level from 11 to 13, @ 13th level from 16 to 18, and finally @17th level it will jump from 21 to 23 points. You will have to adjust every Level Override from 5th level up to keep reflecting the updated numbers, but that’s how you would do it and the 5th level feature will be plain text only with nothing mechanical attached, everything mechanical will be handled by Healing Hands directly.
Happy to help. Edit the Healing Hands trait and look for the Action that’s attached to it. Then edit that Action and scroll all the way to the bottom to find the subsection labeled “Limited Use Data.” You will have to edit the entries for 5th-20th levels.
Wait, you made a “Variant” instead of using the basic Aasimar as a Template, didn’t you? You will have to make a race using the base Aasimar as a template to see how it’s test was created and recreate it from scratch, mostly a bunch of Copy/Pasting and clicking stuff in dropdowns. No big deal, just tedious and a little time consuming is all.
It occurs to me that you can do it even easier than I first explained, or at least without the extra arithmetic. Simply match the uses to the levels (1-20) as the standard one is set up, but for levels 5-20 also check the “Proficiency” box so it will automatically add that in for you. (🤦♂️I can’t believe I didn’t remember that before, the last time I did something like this that wasn’t a possibility yet so I had to do it the hard way. You’ll only need to check that extra box at each level starting at 5th.)
That’s my fault, you’re only lost because I gave you bum directions. I was telling you all that without actually looking at the thing and thought I remembered it was set up differently than it is. That’s my bad. Now that I’ve actually looked at it I realize how dumb I was and how confused you rightfully must be.
Adjust the racial trait for your Variant race so it is set up like this:
Here is a snippet for you that’s even better than the one I used, use it for both the trait and it’s associated action:
Once per long rest as an action, touch a creature and restore {{characterlevel#unsigned}} hit points. Starting at 5th level you can instead restore {{(characterlevel+proficiency)#unsigned}} to this number.
Again, my apologies. I have too manymuch homebrews living between my ears and get confuzzled sometimes. If I had taken a moment to look at an Aasimar PC instead of doing things from my (obviously faulty) memory it would have saved you some time. Please forgive me.
Hello,

Thank you for replying so fast!
But where do I need to go to override those changes?

Sorry, but that proficiency box appears in "Limited Use Data", but that only overrides the number of uses.
Yeah, Im lost lol.

It's all good, friend! I truly appreciate your help. If anything, it gives me more experience on how to better build homebrew rules.
Thank you for all your help.
