I'm working on a Paladin Subclass and I want the option to decide between choosing Oath Spells at the 3rd Level or unique subclass abilities instead.
The Oath Spell is already created as "Granted" class feature type. I made a new subclass Class Feature that is "Replacement" and available at the 3rd level. When I test this out, the Oath Spell is the only default granted option and the new subclass Class Feature does not show up as an option to pick instead of Oath Spell. Am I missing something? How does this work?
On the character creator, you should have what I think of as "mini" tabs, along the lines of "select other options". It's on the class page, just like "spells" has it's on mini-tab
Perfect! Thank you so much! I thought this was not functional for some reason as there was no explanation as to where it'd show up. I was thinking it'd pop up in the original default Class Feature list within the character builder.
Is it intentional to only be able to replace subclass features? I’m trying to fix my homebrew Ranger subclasses for the the class feature variants and it’s not letting me assign the homebrewed variant to the base class features for replacement.

We can only homebrew subclass, so all we can affect are subclasses. We cannot program options to replace core features yet.

The Oath Spells are not attached to a subclass feature, but listed as part of the whole subclass under Basic Information “Additional Specific Spells.” They were basically programmed as a code class feature, and as such we cannot alter it in any way other than to simply not include them.
It really does blow that this isn't possible. I wish they would prioritize Homebrew classes, but it seems to just be getting pushed back again and again, likely because it's a huge project they never wanted to do in the first place. It's really sucky and makes the entire Homebrew infrastructure a billion times less useful because why even use dndbeyond at all if your campaign requires Homebrew classes?
i have a similar question but related to subraces. i made a race call ferromer and wanted tomake sub races based on the kind of metals the subrace normally consumes. but when i made one of the repaceent traits (i ticked the box), their were no options to replace in the next drop down box. so what gives?
PS thinking about it, i wonder if i need to do these as variants, not sub races. or otherwise remove the original "swappable" feature.
found a solution thought it not quite what to the same problem. you create the subrace as a variant (from the race edit screen, click create subrace, then vlick is a variant.) then whn making replacement features, instead of looking at the replaced feature box, theirs a second replace feature box , called (REPLACE BASE RACE RACIAL TRAIT). this give you the features of the base class.
I have discovered that if you name a homebrew subclass feature the same name as a core class feature, the homebrew feature replaces said feature in your character sheet. You can then put the true title of the homebrew feature in its description. Not an ideal solution but it works for now.

Great workaround - helped a lot as this frustrated me a lot!

Did you check the option to use optional class features on the "home" page?

glad I could help.

And without Homebrew, then D&D Beyond is little more than a sourcebook reference library...
I've never met a gamer or group that didn't use at least *some* sort of house rules.
