I'm trying to find a way to have additional spells available to a character at 1st level without having already selected a subclass. In Feats I could only see how to add specific spells to a character's known spells rather than give them additional spell options to choose from in their spell list.
You can make a homebrew version of either their race or background using the original official version as a template, simply follow the appropriate link below. Using the original as a template will automatically import everything attached to that original version into the new one you are creating except for the basic description, which you can add by means of a simple copy/paste from the original.
If you make a homebrewed version of whatever race/subrace/varient they are using, then you would add a special trait to it. After you initially add the trait, the screen will refresh and if you scroll down you will see a bunch of new sections. The very last section at the bottom is labeled “Additional Spell List.”
If you make a customized version of whatever background they’re using, similarly you will find at the bottom a section with the same label “Additional Spell List.”
Either way, any spells you add to either will get added to the list of spells the player can learn or prepare for their character, but won’t be automatically known/prepared by that character.
Once you’ve added whichever spells you want to the appropriate form and saved them, you then MUST remember to hit the main [SAVE CHANGES] button for the entire race/sub/variant or background so the system will recognize your additions. Once that’s all done the player needs simply swap out the one they’re using for your homebrewed version and those spells should become available for them to learn or prepare.
If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask.
PS- By the way, there’s a homebrew forum better for questions like this in future.
