I've started work on a subclass for druids and long story short the druid will end up growing wings. I want to give them flight speed but when I make a character it doesn't apply. I added the flight speed through features -> Modifiers -> Bonus -> Speed (Flying) -> Fixed Value 20
Any ideas or help would be appreciated.
Edit: I figured it out, you have to go to features -> Modifiers -> Set -> Innate Speed (Flying) -> Fixed Value 20
you have to go to modifier -> set -> innate flying speed and then do not enter any value, doing so will set the flying speed to fit your normal walking speed.
it seems that doing variant races cannot replace the original speeds on the race. i checked by recreating an aarakocra and the flgiht option do not have any speed, so replacign that do not changes a thing in speed. i checked the speed trait, its not doing anything to speed either. so it seems speed of a race isn't a replaceable thing. thus if we want to give aarakocra lower speed then 50. we cannot.
i tryed adding a flight speed of 30 without replacing anything., it just ignores that modifier and take the baked in speed of the base race. so reguardless of what i do, the speed of my aarakocra variant is always 25 and 50. i might have sucessfully changed it to 30, but flight speed is always 50 reguardless of what i do.
anybody get any idea as to how to do this as a variant aarakocra ?

so the only way to affect the original speed of the race is to substract or add to it. gotcha thanks for answering !

actually for some reason -20 didn'T work for me, so i customiseed it on the sheet itself.
yeah its an Aarakocra variant because the guy with whom i play decided to literally change the world and make his own. but he literally took the races and made them balance out and made their own. example... the halflings are now little cats and they are not called halflings they are called felinae. same with aarakocra, they are called avian and he has 2 sub types of them. hated the speed of 50 feet, so he gave a wing boost which is bonus action 10 feet boost if you are flying and the original speed which is 30 instead of 50, because 50 was abusive to him.
so i'm trying to make this variant, ditch the sub classes, putting it all in the same variant race. but when i copyed the original aarakocra to see where the speed was... i realised, there is no speed change, no modifier in the flight trait. and then in the speed trait, there is no modifier either. there is literally just no modifiers to replace for speed.
the walking speed seems to work fine if i try to just change it. it became 30 instead of 25. but flgiht speed... it never changes, it stays at 50. i tryed the -20 you said, still doesn't work though.
at least i tryed....

Did you use the “-“ on the number pad, or in the regular keyboard? I have heard it only works with the “-“ from the regular keyboard or from a smartphone it seems since that’s how I do things.
But, if you make a feature for your variant (not Subrace, Variant race) called “brief flight” (or whatever) and set it to replace the “flight” feature, that may do it. It is possible that the flying speed is coded to the name of the feature “Flight,” and does not use a modifier. Like Spellcasting and Hex Warrior do as class features. Yes, you can totally add them to a subclass for any class simply with a feature by that name. (But don’t add “spellcasting” to a caster, it doesn’t work very well.) Some things are just coded to the name itself. Give it a try and lemme know if it works.
I was using the regular keyboard. tryed with numpad, same results. doesn'T work.
just realised two things... 1) i was using set, not bonus. so thats changed. 2) somehow my variant race do not change even though it is changed in my homebrew list. but when i'm going into characer, it uses the first one i did, not the edited ones. so baically thats why it never changes.
trying to find the reason why that is now...
EDIT: whats the difference between innate speed and just speed ? example... innate speed(flying) and Speed (Flying)
EDIT2: everything works now, somehow the build it was using wasn't the corrected ones, it kinda always kept the same first one. but it seems to have finally accepted the new ones and now everything works as intended.

How do you set the flying speed to match the walking speed?
you have to go to modifier -> set -> innate flying speed and then do not enter any value, doing so will set the flying speed to fit your normal walking speed.

Or, to create a variant that has its own feature which replaces the feature from the original race. But yeah.
