I'm struggling to create a custom weapon for my players. I want to create a magic metal rod (using Club stats as base) that is both an Arcane Focus, and can be used as a melee weapon. I don't want my wizard to be proficient in melee weapons, just in using THIS weapon, thus adding his proficiency bonus to the attack roll. I also want to have the rod do an extra amount of damage on a hit equal to half his proficiency bonus. Can this be done? I don't have experience making homebrew items on this platform.
In the Item’s description state everything you want it to say. Add the “Focus” tag. SAVE!!! Then, scroll down until you see modifiers, “Add” two modifiers:
The first modifier will be “Modifier—>Proficiency” “Modifier Subtype—>Club.” That will make it so that the Character is proficient with all clubs as long as they are attuned to the weapon. There’s no way around that, but hey, they’re only clubs.
The second modifier will be “Modifier—>Damage” “Modifier Subtype—>Bludgeoning” and put the “fixed value” to 1. When the character hits 9th-level, raise it to 2, and when they hit 17th level, raise it to 3.
2) Based off of a Dagger.
Do the description and Tag the same way. This way will require 5 modifiers, but will not make the character proficient with all clubs.
(Those first four combine to take a dagger and basically turn it into a club for all intents and purposes. Since Wizards are already proficient with Daggers, you won’t have to add any new proficiencies.
Modifier 5 “Modifier—>Damage” “Modifier Subtype—>Bludgeoning” and put the “fixed value” to 1. When the character hits 9th-level, raise it to 2, and when they hit 17th level, raise it to 3.
The other way you could do it is on the character sheet itself since what you want is not so complex. Under “Equipment” just add a Custom Item with the description you want, and under “Actions” add a custom attack with the proficiency level, stats, etc that you want. That would probably be the simplest way come to think of it. Then your player can update the damage bonus for themself when they level up.

Thanks in advance!
I can help you do everything except add 1/2 proficiency to Damage Rolls. Would you settle for an extra 1d4, or a set number?

I suppose I could make it a set number, and then edit the item as my player levels up. I'd start with a +1 to the 1d4 damage. Thanks for the reply!
Okay, then there are two ways you could do it.
1) Based off of a Club:
In the Item’s description state everything you want it to say. Add the “Focus” tag. SAVE!!! Then, scroll down until you see modifiers, “Add” two modifiers:

2) Based off of a Dagger.
Do the description and Tag the same way. This way will require 5 modifiers, but will not make the character proficient with all clubs.
Modifier 1 “Modifier—>Ignore Weapon Property” “Modifier Subtype—>Thrown”
Modifier 2 “Modifier—>Ignore Weapon Property” “Modifier Subtype—>Light”
Modifier 3 “Modifier—>Ignore Weapon Property” “Modifier Subtype—>Finesse”
Modifier 4 “Modifier—>Replace Damage Type” “Modifier Subtype—>Bludgeoning”
(Those first four combine to take a dagger and basically turn it into a club for all intents and purposes. Since Wizards are already proficient with Daggers, you won’t have to add any new proficiencies.
Modifier 5 “Modifier—>Damage” “Modifier Subtype—>Bludgeoning” and put the “fixed value” to 1. When the character hits 9th-level, raise it to 2, and when they hit 17th level, raise it to 3.
