Out of curiosity, does anyone here have any BBEG concepts for their characters? I was thinking about Kite being a death knight and realized that it could actually be a really cool concept. For Kite, I think to become a villain she would have to either a) go crazy or b) lose her faith in humanity. A mix of both would probably be how to make her evil. And I think chaotic evil Kite would be terrible and amazing at the same time. I think the death of Mithris would really shake her, but it wouldn't break her by itself. If she went out for revenge, it would be a good start to her path of villainy. I was thinking she would keep her enthusiasm and 'happiness', but in a very chaotic evil/sadistic way.
For Atemos, I actually have a cool concept. The mortal to demon lord thing is a really good backstory for a villain because it kind of changes the demon mindset. For him to be a BBEG though, it'd probably have to take place at least 200-300 years in the future. If he let the past make him apathetic, he would end up with the mindset of 'I want to change the world for the better, but I don't care about what happens to the people who get in my way'. He would have to end up becoming more conniving and observant though. Serving as a second in command would probably give him that practice though.
Eris would definitely be looking for revenge if she became a villain. Depending on how her hatred of Stephany goes, she could become evil. Szaren probably wouldn't become a BBEG if something happened to him, but potential consequences of the war he's trying to prevent could change his perspective a lot.

Sulfur has the support of the population and supplies magic items. All he needs to do is curse his items to knock out a good amount of the tavern. He might turn if his friends are threatened by people in the tavern or if he is hired by some one else. It’s going to be a high price though and he has to trust them enough to go through with it

nox would have one of his friends die, go into perma anti-nox and seek revenge. as he seeks revenge he trusts everyone even less and go crazy thinking everyone would betray him and start going on a systematic killing spree
That's essentially what Calius is, but he already has angelic psychopathy. I have some thing plans that could pave the way to him becoming a BBEG.

Astara... not likely to become a BBEG, but it's possible. If she gets obsessed enough with trying to protect her little world, she might become an enemy.

What distinguishing features do you use for non-humanoid races? How do you make an angel more than a human with wings or a dragon more than a big lizard?
For dragons, the feature that sets them apart from humanoids the most is that they're antisocial. The loathe interacting with their own kind. For humanoids, trying to live out our lives alone, with no contact with any others of our kind would be both suicide and a nightmare. We rely on each other to survive. But dragons don't. They live alone until they take a mate, and even then, they often do so out of necessity, not love. They're less social than even the most introverted human- inside, everyone craves at least some interaction. But dragons can delve into a single subject for hundreds of years, not caring about their lack of contact with others. This mainly spring from their territorial instinct to protect their territory- they want to be left alone. Dragon can get along with humanoids, though, and metallics do often, since their instinctual side doesn't see them as a threat to the dragon's territory.

For devils, I try to make them distinct from just 'evil lawyer'. I don't have a particular distinguishing feature, I mostly try to give them an actual personality. Almost all devils are conniving, but in different ways. Mostly it's just the change of goal, ex: 'I want to rise in the ranks so I can challenge Asmodeus eventually' differs from 'I want to remove demons from existence' and other. But that's mostly just vanilla stuff tbh. I really like the dragon concept.

For angels, I have their most defining trait often be their apathy. They don't feel emotion. No sorrow. No happiness. No anger. They're even more foreign to humanoids than fiends are. They do their job remorselessly and completely. They have no qualms, no distractions from their duty. You can see a lot of this in Calius, since he fell while the gods were still alive. Astara is different. She learned to sort of fake emotion from her time among mortals, since it was something that helped her fit in. But eventually, she became unsure whether or not those emotions were fake. When the gods died, almost every angel got PTSD and most were permanently impaired. Imagine feeling numb your entire life, then suddenly getting stabbed by a hot needle. That's what it was like for them, only ten times worse. Astara faired better than most, since she had already been exposed to emotion, but she was still effected by it greatly.
I play fiends (especially devils and succubi) as essentially the opposite. They thrive on emotion. The reason devils are so cruel is that they feel empty, but they long for pleasure and enjoyment, something they receive from torture and killing. These things actually bring them elation, and they become a sort of pleasurable hobby. A similar thing goes for succubi/incubi. The act of seducing and kissing a being to death gives them pleasure, which helps to push away they emptiness inside. Other things can fill it up slightly for the fiends, but only by committing sin do they truly feel happiness.
That's one of the reasons I like the contrast between Sarana and Siara so much. Sarana wants to change, but she feels like she can't, since she still enjoys sin. Siara doesn't want to change. She's perfectly happy with doing sin for her own pleasure, and she's proud of being a devil. It's what makes their characters so different, even if they're both fiends affiliated with the Nine Hells.

Sulfur has the support of the population and supplies magic items. All he needs to do is curse his items to knock out a good amount of the tavern. He might turn if his friends are threatened by people in the tavern or if he is hired by some one else. It’s going to be a high price though and he has to trust them enough to go through with it

*This is the first time I ever Liked a post on here, now that I know the trick of turning your phone sideways. I really love thinking about dragons.*

It's what makes their characters so different, even if they're both fiends affiliated with the Nine Hells.

speaking of sarana, when do you think you'll bring her back? nox thinks the best way to start the path to change is some ZoT therapy, and i really want to see how she would react to that

Oh, she would hate that. I'm planning to bring her back relatively soon, probably around the time of devil encounter (which should be this weekend).
