Otherwise? Just played a cool free VR game called Sail with my friends, which is an open world pirate RPG where you sail around collecting treasure and fighting other pirates. It was fun.
Isn't that just the VR version of Sea of Thieves?
Yeah, basically. Although I've never played Sea of Thieves before. (Please don't hurt me)

Hi there! My name's Elk. I'm NoiSilverheart's doppelgänger. I'm a demi/grayromantic, socially awkward Okie who may or may not be a pyromaniac. *random confetti blast*
I'm a warlock of the Archcrone, and my patron is TheFriendlyArchfey. I was nicknamed AchatesCervus8337 by VitusW and given the titles "Swashbuckling Scorcher", "The Unpredictable Jedi", "Burning Fury of the Ancients", and "Combustion Knight" by DrummerBoyDragonSlayer.
QotD: Do any of you use software like Notion or Obsidian to plan your games? Mike "Sly Flourish" Shae seems to use both and I'm trying to decide which to test out first. I'd probably use it more for organizing my homebrew notes, but still they seem like powerful tools.
I just use a note book that has scribbled notes all over it. I have a notebook for each campaign I run.
Table top? I am in a weekly "Delta Green" game. It started fun, but now to a point where it's all "question reality" which I've never found fun (not in games, stories, books, movies, tv shows - just not my thing).
Computer game, would be "SpaceVenture" as I am helping smash bugs in that game. Other than that, probably one of the Sierra (or Sierra-like) games I do for my Youtube channel.
Board game, it was probably "Bang! The Dice Game."

Yeah, I have one of these too, but I use it more for homebrew than campaign management. In any event, I really recommend Obsidian, so far. Its local version is free, to boot.
I use a physical notebook. Sometimes I put things in a googledoc.
I still want to see my notes if there is no internet.
Yeah I'm with you. Thankfully Obsidian is local to your computer, so the internet being down isn't an issue. Think of it as a system for organizing a bunch of interconnected markdown or text files.

That's cool (especially the free part!) - the downside is taking those notes with you. I have a desktop... my laptop is a Windows 10 ARM laptop... and... well, if it's used more than... well, looking pretty... it struggles. (So that laptop is used only to strictly record the audio of the session, so I can use that for notes). I made a website for my homebrew campaign, that I have everything on (notes from sessions, the deities, the landmarks, etc). So I usually just need my notebook where I've scribbled down ideas.
But I will check out Obsidian... because, really, free is a difficult price to beat... and it might be helpful in my madness.
Does it allow for multiple campaigns? I run five games (which are all inter-connected, so if group 1 burns down town_01, and then group 2 comes along to town_01, town_01 will be burned or in the process of rebuilding, depending on the time)... and then I run one separate Dragonlance campaign of my own design (not the D&D 5e one).
I made a character for a Ravenloft campaign that was a living shadow created by the darkness on accident in the middle of the woods. The darkness doesn't like a little bit of it walking around and roaming free, so it hunted them. After a long time of running like hell, they found a village, and in that village an elderly candlemaker couple who took them in and protected them. Eventually they worked up the courage to swear an Oath of Devotion and set out to adventure.

I had a frog prince subversion character. An angry god cursed a frog to turn into a human and then he served that god in hopes of pleasing him and letting him become a frog again.

Reminds me of one of the best quotes from my favorite video game.
Reared on the wisdom of our fairy tales, we're accustomed to feeling pity for the man who's transformed into a frog or finch, but seldom is it that we spare a thought for the artless beast who's transformed into a man and upon whom fate has surely played a much crueler trick.

What are some unusual character backgrounds/stories your character(s) have had?
So my Tempest Cleric is (or believes himself to be at least) a descendant of Thor, but that's not the weird part. The weird parts have come when another god's son looks at him funny, a lich senses his approach and writes in her journal, "he is both divine and arcane, a conduit, a battery," and when he straight up asks his own father what the deal is and he tells him to gather Thor's three relics and then they can talk. The story is still ongoing and I can't wait to unravel the mystery of what the heck my guy actually is!
What are some unusual character backgrounds/stories your character(s) have had?
I had a character, who was on of my all time favorites, have the following backstory:
They were originally a human male, a scholar of ancient traditions who studied the stars. They sought to learn all about the things beyond, and one day, while exploring an ancient crypt, the found a book. A book of eldritch lore, describing a great entity known as Gargengaulsh. The knowledge of this book drove him mad, and the hunger for contact with this 'wonderful' creature consumed the man's everyday life, becoming a dark and dangerous addiction. Sensing a corrupted and vile soul, an imp appeared to the man one day and offered him an infernal deal. The man said he would only sell his soul if he was given a link to Gargengaulsh. But the imp couldn't grant it, so the devil went on its way. Throughout the years, the man performed more and more vile acts, becoming the leader of a blasphemous, debased cult full of lunatics and the worst kinds of sinners. These dark acts, commited in the name of an alien evil, drew the attention of various devils time and time again. By the end of this man's lifespan, the devils hunger for his soul was so great that Asmodeous himself appeared to the man, and finally, offered the lunatic exactly what he always dreamed off: a direct link to Gargengaulsh for the rest of his life. The man was excited, but soon bemoaned the fact he wouldn't get to serve the eldritch god for long, since his time of death was near. So Asmodeous offered him something else in addition: a new, younger form, with wondrous powers, but Asmodeous would have power over the man when he so chose. The cultist accepted, and was transformed into a Non-binary Tiefling by the name of Discovery, a fiend warlock bound to Asmodeous, with a connection to the elder evil known as Gargengaulsh.
God, I loved that character. I miss Discovery dearly. They were sent to the 9 hells to serve Asmodeous for all eternity about two months ago. And to think, I came up with one of my favorite characters ever because I didn't have a new character prepared for the session so I just whipped up a basic tiefling fiend-lock.

Has anyone ever played Mage the Ascension RPG - and if so, what were some of your characters there?
I am about to join a game for it and know zilch. I played it once with the same DM I am about to join - but it was only for a few months and still never fully understood how the dice determined success or not... and zero familiarity with the world itself.
I have an idea for a character already just curious if anyone here has played Mage before and what they made.

In person was a little frustrating as it was supposed to be the last session but half the players couldn't make it. So it turned into a lead-up. Then the actual last session came up but I had to do something for a family friend and missed it.
For PbP One group is funny because they can't quite figure out the puzzle.
One of the games I'm playing in I'm having fun with. My character is low INT low CHR. So he gloms on to ideas that aren't exactly correct and is rude about it. Others are going slowly and I need to learn patience.
