The group I play with has this house rule where we roll a d20 when eating certain things to see how much our characters like it. Twenty means it is the best food we have ever tasted, one would probably result in vomiting or spewing the food in disgust. This has made fun interactions. We had one player whose character was a merchant who only sold fried rice. My character tried some of it and rolled a twenty. After that, my character and his character became very close and loyal to each other because I wanted fried rice and he wanted to make fried rice.
So I was wondering, is this a widely used rule?
I personally like the rule where you roll to see how well the food was made as opposed to for how much each character liked it. That way, the players can decide how their character feels about whatever they're eating while still having something to base that decision off.

Ahh, reminds me of when I first got my Monster Manual and then suddenly feared everything that didn't move because of blights and mimics. Ropers didn't help, either.
Anyways, if it's showing you want, it's showing you'll get. This is my dice chest, and it is, in fact, the best thing I own.

How I'm posting based on text formatting: Mod Hat Off - Mod Hat Also Off (I'm not a mod)
Do you know the animated movie Fire and Ice - if not, you should. It came out in the 80s using Rotoscoping and beautiful art (Frazetta - if you are familiar ...) -
They just announced a comic series that's a prequel... and, after over 2 years of being comic free, I am going to check this out...
There's roughly some - insane 20 or so variant covers - but I love the tribute to the original in this.
Okay, I don’t have an image to share. I’m thinking of one because I know I have something great. However, what are the opinions on the new WotC book?
I personally think it feels redundant (giant lore is in Volo’s) and if they want to interest me then I think there should have been more than one subclass, maybe some races or variants, more spells, more magic items, more feats, and a bunch of monsters. They got a few feats and magic items, along with around 50 giant creatures. I still think they could have done better. Anyone remember the Rune Scribe prestige class they introduced on UA a while back? That would have been incredible.
Volo's guide did have great giant lore, but they have discontinued Volo's, haven't they? This seems like a way to get at some of that lore now that the book is no longer easily available.
I do feel like there should be more than one subclass, spells, several races, more items and more monsters. However, I like giants and I will probably look through it when it comes out. If it looks cool I might buy it.
I have watched Fire and Ice at least once a year since it came out, lol.
Aside from being a Bakshi fan, it is a really interesting example of stylistic shit that appeals to me as a person who loves movies.
The story is as bare bones as it gets, but after wearing out VHS tapes carefully hoarded and transferring to digital and then eventually getting the digital version, I am gonna say that I do like it better on small screen.
About 8 years ago, Bakshi's kids were out at conventions for him, selling original cels from the film, and I still kick myself that I had overspent that day, lol. According to them, he was going to do a similar thing for Boris, and the only reason I believed it was one of his kids with Liv was there.

I wish we got a list of what those monsters were.
Like if 20 of those monsters are different variations of giants, that's not so great out of the 70 new ones they're claiming are in the book.
I am in it for the monsters, these days, as a DM - because my campaign has been running for some time now - I now purposely hunt for new monsters to use and find ways to weave them into the campaign. (I still use "classics" in the campaign - like the off week - the Sahaugin are always gonna show up and be evil, because the first encounter with them in that game was absolutely hilarious).
So far, in none of my campaigns, giants have not really been a thing. In my main game I run, I home brewed "Sand Giants" based on the Sand Giants from the EverQuest game (which I used to spend endless amounts of time on). But other than that, they've barely been encountered.
Oh. Wait. There was a fire giant prince that was slain. Hrm. I need to remember that and do something with that...

Hah! You get more and more awesome. So I only have like 5 movies on my iPad - Fire and Ice is one of them. And I watch it every few weeks (this week, that's increased - it's been my "put it on as I go to bed" movie - because the comic news has me hyped). But yes, I love the art style (the rotoscoping mixed with Bakshi art style). In 1983 when this came out, my dwarf in D&D was trying to get a bear "skull cap" to mimic the Darkwolf (because, me as a person, loves wolves too much to even kill them in a D&D setting lol). And of course, in 1983, when I was much, much younger - Teegra was.... amazing. Ahem. When the sub humans catch her and throw her in the water, when she first comes out all alluring. Phew! (Fans self) But I promise she wasn't why I loved it - one of the main reasons I loved it was actually Nekron, the bad guy. He was freaking amazing. A year later, Walter Simonson in Marvel Comics over in there, would introduce a character namd Malekith - that, though as a Dark Elf didn't have Nekron's frost powers - there was a certain similarity, I felt - and as such Malekith would go on to be one of my favorite Thor villains for a very long time. (Though I hated his MCU version with a passion)
Side note, I never got to see any original cells - because I would have broke my wallet. But I had a very, very, very big poster of the original cover - all framed. One day when moving, as I was turning to go down the stairs which turned in the apartment I was in - a corner got caught between the bars and I hadn't realized it - and as I made the turn and it bent - the glass literally bowed and exploded - shredded the thick poster. Broke my heart. Wasn't a thin poster - so it cut into the boarding behind it that it's all a part of - so it ended up with deep cuts in it. Still have it though. Just not in glass anymore.
