Whether it was framed or real, each of them has some heavy crime weighing on their soul, and they found company in their fellow condemned. As more and more people came, it became a small town of outcasts. Survival was easy enough- they learned to hunt the decent amount of animals, there was a lake nearby that could be fished-- although they lacked light, as most of the time little to none shone through the dense treetops. Day was simply marked by the makeshift clock in the center cabin and the lighting of the pyre to accompany it. Each day they came into the center, talked and laughed, then put out the fire and went to their beds. Going out into the untamed wild or back into civilization would probably mean certain death, so they were stuck in their little camp-town, but they were content with that as they could trust each other.
But one day, they found their leader with a knife in his back in the center cabin. They recognized that knife, they saw someone flipping it around earlier that day... But they couldn't remember who. It seems that not all here have renounced their criminal ways, and it could be any of them. Above the leader's body was a message carved into the wall: NO REST FOR THE WICKED.

Some of the players are bloodthirsty killers, and the town needs to find the mafia before it's too late while the mafia try to not blow their cover. See the rules for more info. For Halloween I'm trying something more edgy dark and spooky this time, credit to PJ for inspiring me a bit.
For those returning, I'm thinking there won't be any [new] custom roles in order to get back into the flow of things. So yeah it's a pretty standard game. Hoping for 12 players but can make do if we don't reach that, etc.
Note: Recently mafia games have had a problem where people don't get mafia and then don't participate much because of it, or they just have stuff going on and don't let us know in advance. This brings the game to a crawl and often lets the mafia get a free but boring win if the big talkers are killed first. By joining this game, you agree to actually participate in it regardless of your role. If you have IRL stuff and you'll be gone for a while (like a day or two is fine, a week isn't) then let us know in advance so I can try to find a replacement player. If multiple people think they'll be on and off then they can be given the same player slot.
How the Game Works:
Mafia on here starts with a simple process.

2. The game starts. Different roles will be assigned to different people. This can be a Town Role, Mafia Role, or Neutral Role. The different roles are in the Roles Section if you want to see what they are.
3. People are pm'ed their roles and the game thread is made. The game starts. :D
Then the actual game is split into two periods: Day and Night.
Day: People can discuss who they think mafia is and vote for who they think is the most suspicious. You can vote someone by saying: VOTE: PERSON or choose against it by saying VOTE: SKIP VOTE. The one with the most votes dies, and their role will be revealed. Day lasts 48 IRL hours (or more if I'm busy or purposefully extend it), and then it goes to night.
Night: This is when the regular townsfolk sleep and those with special roles do their stuff. Everything during night is done in PMs for secrecy, and people don't discuss the game in the main thread (you can goof around, just don't say stuff like who you're sus of). Night lasts 24 IRL hours (or more if I'm busy or purposefully extending it), and then it goes back to day and I'll reveal the results of the actions (whether it be in PM or the main thread).
Day and Night may last shorter then expected if everyone has voted for day or done their actions for night. This goes on in an endless cycle until a win goal is met.
Mafia: Have there be an amount of non-mafia equal to the amount of mafia, since they can't be voted out then and are free to slaughter.
Townsfolk: Eliminate all of the mafia and free the manor of evil!
Neutral: Each neutral role has their own goal that they're working towards. They work with neither mafia nor the town.
After the condition for winning is met, they win!!! Truly the plot twist of all time.
General Rules:
1. Don't be rude. It's just a game, don't get mad over someone making a mistake or two.
2. Dead people will be added to a Graveyard PM where they can discuss with other people who have met an unfortunate fate, and the roles of everyone will be revealed to them if they want. I feel like this is obvious, but don't talk about the game in the main thread if you're a ghost. You can goof around in the main thread at night, but you can't talk about the actual game at any time or talk at all during the day. Even if it's misinformation, ghosts cannot say ANYTHING that would potentially sway people's votes.
3. NO PM SHARING. If you want, you are free to share your role, but you can't provide out of game proof of that. It's fine to say "I'm a townsfolk", it's not to say "I'm a townsfolk, here is the exact wording or a screenshot of my Role PM from Gibber."
4. Not a rule, but feel free to ask for rule clarifications if you're unsure of stuff! Don't want any confusion, besides scrambling to figure out the mafia. :)
5. If you want to join after the game has started, or if you need to step out of the game for whatever reason, there'll be a queue system where people who need to leave can be replaced by others.
6. Put "Darkness" in your first post to show you read these.
7. What happens in the forest stays in the forest. Don't make unofficial PMs to talk to each other in secret.
Roles:
Town
Regular Townie- No special abilities
Ritualist (Detective)- Can commune with the dead and ask about one person each night. The dead will say if they are guilty or innocent (neutral are counted as guilty).
First Responder (Doctor)- Has a first aid kit that they can use to heal people if they arrive on time. Each night, you can choose one person that can be yourself, although you can't protect the same person twice in a row. If this person is attacked, they will not die.
Hunter (Vigilante)- Previously hunter of animals, this dangerous game has combined with your boldness to make you take drastic measures. Each night, you can choose to shoot a specific person and possibly catch a mafia. If you shoot a townsfolk, your confidence dwindles and you decide to stick to animals. (Becoming a regular townie)
Storyteller (Jailer)- Can distract a person by going into their cabin and telling them a story, wearing a mask and playing a record to hide your identity. Doing this will prevent them from performing their night actions if they have any.
Neutral
We'll only have one of these, or no neutrals at all
Frenzied Townie (Jester)- Doesn't want to die, and will go in a frenzy to prevent being voted out. Upon being voted out, will kill an amount of people equal to half of the total town at the start of the game. (For example, if we start with 12 then 6 die. This will be rounded down for odd numbers.) If this ends the game, the Jester wins. Otherwise they don't.
Arsonist- In exchange for a pardon, was tasked with spying on the town. They've seen enough and decided the whole place needs to burn. Each night, you can choose a person's cabin to douse in gasoline. You must choose this carefully based on who you think will and won't die, as a dead person's house is pointless to light. If everyone currently alive has their house doused, then at any point you can light it all up and win the game.
Mafia
Masked Killer (Mafia Goon)- Is eligible for the night's kill. No special abilities.
Skeleton Key (Consort)- Only eligible for the night's kill if all other mafia are dead. Can open any doors regardless of if they're previously locked, but also lock any doors regardless of if they're previously open. Each night you can choose one person to lock in their cabin. This person will be unable to perform night actions if they have any.
Demon (Mafia Detective)- Is eligible for the night's kill. Can alternatively choose a person to peer into the soul of a person, learning their exact role.

These are great rules, but I do think that the neutral roles need to be nerfed a little bit.
Jester is nerfed actually, before it was an instant win for being voted out. Arsonist is unchanged to when I previously used it. What do you think is overpowered about them? (Genuinely asking)
