This is Into The Chasm, a fantasy subterranean horror RP & exploration thread! :D
The Base cave, which a teen named Fern (me!) has fortified a bit, is safe, and a place for talking, rest, relaxation, and dice games. Fern is always either chatting or checking the gate(s). There's a pair of tunnels leading out of the base cave, but one of them has caved in. Fern has some info...
Fern doesn't explore due to injuries, but they often tell tales about shards, about a stone circle, and about roses...
Thread Rules (read this first-ish):
1. No 18+ stuff; only children survive the fall.
2. No excessive swears; you can censor with [cave].
3. No ooc arguing, take it to PMs.
4. Should be obvious, but no harassment or bullying either.
5. No PVP, you'll need strength in numbers.
6. CUT YOUR QUOTE CHAINS!
Put "spelunking" in your first post to confirm you've read ALL the rules.
Special Rules (current/known):
Go in a group when possible (or don't, your funeral)
Watch your back (and the backs of others)
Don't trust neat carvings
If your torch goes out, hold your breath
If a tunnel doesn't end, walk backwards until you're out of it
If you feel a tap on your left shoulder, run and try to hide; on the right, drop and play dead
If it's warm in a tunnel, stand still and don't blink
Don't yell in the woods
Exploring:
You get these stats:
HP: 10
Normal 5e abilities; choose modifiers: three with +0, two with +1. No skill proficiencies to worry about.
Panic: start with 2d4-1 Panic. Sometimes you'll gain panic or have to roll (1d100) higher than your panic level or you'll suffer frightened (or insanity...). At 100 Panic you instantly die from fear.
You always have a torch, and bring 1d4+1 "firestrikers" (matches) with you when leaving the Base Cave.
Weapons (Choose 1):
femur club (+3 to hit, 1d6 blunt)
wooden pike (+2 to hit, 2d4+1 stab, reach)
stone axe (+2 to hit, 1d6+2 slash)
bone shards (+3 to hit, 1d4+1 stab)
splinters (+2 to hit, 1d4 stab, range 20/60, chance to lose)
skull on a rope (+1 to hit, 1d4+1 blunt, range 10/20, never lost when thrown)
crystal cleaver (+0 to hit, 2d6 slash, reach)
light bow (+2 to hit, 1d6 stab, range 60/280, start with 10 arrows)
glass shard sword (+3 to hit, 1d6+1 slash, chance to break on a nat roll <5 that increases each time)
hooked staff (+2 to hit, 1d6 blunt or stab (choose before rolling damage), advantage to climb/grapple(stab only!))
radiant crystal (blind monsters within 25 ft for 2 rounds, 3 round cooldown)
wire and sturdy clippers (100 ft razor/thin, or 50 ft stiff; razor cuts, but be careful; thin can be heated to harden, 2 feet per minute; stiff takes strength and has strength)
rusty shears
stakes or pitons and a small mallet (10 small/6 medium wood stakes or 5 small/3 medium metal pitons)
