After the monocle is (I assume) pointed out, I cast mage hand to retrieve it and put it on the mannequin.
Your mage hand plucks the monocle from the chandelier and brings it down to you. You place it on the mannequin, and as you approach you notice the plain features of the mannequin start to change into a frowning man in his sixties. The air is thick, and you can taste the oil paint in your mouth, feel it on your skin, or is it your skin now?
The monocle fits perfectly onto his face, and you feel a great swooping sensation as a wave of irresistable force pushes you all towards the window, and out, tumbling into a great heap in the office beyond - now the correct size for you. You your dismay, Alexander the Paladin is the last on the pile, in his full armour.
Standing up, you see the painting you fell out of is the same now as the one that was hanging in the painted study. The room you're in is almost the same, but everything is dusty - the carpet is worn and faded, the chandelier is missing half of its crystals. The leather desk surface is cracked and worn. The wall behind you is still filled with paintings of doomed souls, lost to the power of the paintings.
The room has two doors out of it - one where you found the cupboard, and one where you came in.
(Congratulations! You all narrowly avoided being consumed by a phylactery of a mysteriously longeved gentleman! What did you think? I'd love some feedback on this one, it's one I've been planning for ages!)
Alexander gets off the group quickly, apologizing the whole time. “Oh dear, that was close! Is everyone alright?”
(This room was awesome! I really enjoyed it. Having us slowly turning into paint really gave gave us a sense of urgency.)
(I agree, it was incredible.)

This isn't actually a signature, just something I copy and paste onto the bottom of all my posts. Or is it? Yep, it is. Or is it..? Thanks for the feedback - I'm really glad you enjoyed it! It was actually inspired by a song called Love is a Camera, which I've only ever heard sung by a friend at a jamming session in a pub. The lyrics "Stand still evermore, Pose for eternity with me; Your soul on my wall" resonated with me all of a sudden and I was inspired! The whole song is fairly comparable, actually, only it's photographs not paintings! I'm calling the encounter "Your soul on my wall".
@plopped123, of course you can, just be sure not to kill the whole party with it - I'd never forgive myself, though the many, many years of extra life from their captured souls would give me ample time to come to terms with it... ;)
I'll be writing it up at some point, so when I do I'll put it in the guild of homebrew!
I'm out of ideas for the next room, so if anyone wants to take the next one, then go for it!
Thoruk (half orc barbarian, see profile pic) will emerge from the pile of people who were just tipped into the room, quite as if he had been there the whole time. Of the flaming fox and fireproof armour, there is no sign.
"Onwards!", without helping anyone up, Thoruk will stride ahead, wrestle manfully with the doorknob, and if possible, open the door to the next room!
Question: How does everyone think spell slot regeneration should work? Half of you total slots back every time you go to a new room? Or all slots back every room? Or infinite slots?
(By the way, I don't think we should get infinite slots.)

That's a tricky one... I mean, this was never intended to be a strict one, more for people to try out their individual ideas for traps and puzzles, so a full refresh would be viable - though it may stagnate to play a caster without any resource management!
Thus far you've been the main source of magic, what do you think's fair & fun?
I don't really care between full or half, I just wanted to know what other people thought would be reasonable. I think either one could work, but maybe half of total slots regained every room.

Thoruk suddenly says "Ooh, I've got one!" When you turn to look, he's no longer there.
You all find yourselves in the centre of a large, circular room. The ceiling above you is stone, and it is domed. There is a pale orb in its centre, bathing the room in natural seeming light.
The walls of the room are, as expected, lacking any doors or features, but appear to be decorated in a variety of carvings, but they are too distant to make out from where you're stood. The floor as well seems to be carved in some way, with lines extending outwards towards the walls from the centre, almost like two 4-pointed stars, the larger laid atop the smaller, and offset to form an 8 pointed star shape. At the end of each of these 8 points is a plinth, on which you can see a small bottle.
On one side of the room, there is a flat section of wall which you would have expected to have had a door, but it is bare stone, again with what looks like carvings on it.
(I agree, it was incredible.)

I’m leaning towards half, Angelino is going to cats some spells. Also, for racial traits and class stuff, one to two rooms? That feels appropriate.
Yeah. Every room, we get 1/2 of our slots back. Every other room, we get our class/race features back. How's that?

Sounds good to me! What about hit points?

Probably go along with racial traits, every other room.
Or maybe every 3 or 4 rooms, because some of us have access to healing. Maybe that's too much to keep track of, though.

Yeah, just go with the flow really. Are we expecting the next room to happen some time soon?
This gonna happen?

Doesn’t look like it. If someone else wants to do it that would be great.

I walk to the plinth directly in front of me and investigate it: 16
I also investigate the carvings surrounding it: 15
Edit: 2 and 18. Huh.
