Three hundred years ago, the Cataclysm brought ruin to the world of Krynn. In a single day, an age of wonders came to an abrupt end. Countless died, the face of the world changed, and the gods themselves vanished.
Through ages of struggle, the peoples of Krynn survived, but the world isn't what it was. Those nations that remain linger in the shadows of their ancestors. Only slowly have they begun to push back centuries of darkness and rediscover how the world has changed. Now this wounded world faces ruin once more.
The War of the Lance has begun.
Hello! I'm Joan. I am going to be running a game roughly following the Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen adventure here on the D&D Beyond play by post forum, and I am looking for four or five players that are interested in taking part. Please reply here if you are, and feel free to collaborate with each other on backstories etc!
Character creation details:
Starting Level: 2.
Attributes: Point Buy.
Equipment: Class and Background options.
Species Options: Human, Elf, Dwarf, Gnome, and Kender are the most compatible. Other species native to Krynn include centaurs, minotaurs, goblins, and hobgoblins. Species from other worlds may be considered on a case by case basis, but we'll have to work out how you ended up on Krynn.
Level 1 Bonus Feat: If your background is Knight of Solamnia or Mage of High Sorcery, you start with the associated level 1 feat from the book. Otherwise, work with me to come up with a custom bonus feat fitting your background and character concept.
Class and Subclass: Any, but note that divine magic is only beginning to return to the world, so if you choose a divine class or subclass figure out what you were before the gods chose you as a vessel for their acts.
Reason for being in the Right Place at the Right Time: You all are in the river town of Vogler attending the funeral of Ispin Greenshield, an adventurer with whom you were close. Figure out how you knew him and perhaps a tall tale he told you or some deed of his you observed.
Other Details:
Game Pace: Maybe a post every day or two from the players, as DM I will post a bit more frequently than but will try not to go too fast for everyone.
Combat and Exploration: Will be done Theater of the Mind style, with no maps or tokens.
Taking Breaks and Leaving the Game: I understand that things can come up or a game is just not right for someone. I do request that you let me know where possible if you need to take a break or leave the game.
I think that's it for now. If you have any questions about the setting or this game, feel free to post them in replies here. Looking forward to hearing from you!
Grew up on the streets having to steal to keep alive. Was forced to work for the local mage who treated him like a lab rat practicing their spells on them.
After one of the spells went drastically wrong the building burnt down. Once Wade woke up he saw his chance to escape his prison and start his own path.
On the streets life was somehow harder, not having a regular meal and being unable to trust anyone he had to steal just to feed himself. With just the scorched clothes on his back he dreams of a future where he can provide for himself.
Personality (And what scares the character) : - Personality: Has a need to steal whatever they see fit to survive in the tough world - Ideals: To be able to live in a world where he no longer needs to steal - Flaw: Does not trust others easily - Terrified of Magic
Name: Daryan Seltiyel Race: Half-Elf Class: Hexblade Background: Criminal Backstory: Daryan grew up in the City of Tarsis, first at the Hope Springs orphanage and later in the streets as an urchin, making his living the way he could by sneaking into places he shouldn't and talking his way out again in case of being discovered One day at the grand market he was however caught by the merchant Ispin Greenshield, who instead of sending him off to the city watch let him work as an errand boy, showing the young half-elf another way of life. One night at the local tavern, Daryan heard a fantastic story from a traveler who briefly caught sight of mystic tower in Wayreth forest, and driven by curiosity, young Daryan traveled north to seek out this tower which surely held great wealth and magic. After almost falling into despair over searching the forest but finding nothing, he eventually encountered an old man in white robes. The old man explained that he was Par-Salian, a Mage of High Sorcery and that he knew why Daryan had came to the forest, but once more Daryan was offered an opportunity, serving as the old white-robed wizard's agent to keep him informed on events in the north, lending him a black curved blade named Darkstar that would assist him in his mission. With a new purpose, Daryan traveled north to the city of Kalaman, where he established himself as an adventurer while keeping eyes and ears open for any rumors of war brewing in the east.
@Awkwardldldl: Dark elf is fine, as far as I know (I'm no expert) there aren't drow in Dragonlance, but there's no reason an elf couldn't have grey skin and great night vision, so I don't see a problem. Elves in Dragonlance seem to split into high elves, wood elves and sea elves, so you might want to think which culture you come out of.
@Honeymonstar: Also not sure if Eladrin are a thing in Dragonlance (is the Feywild a thing, I'm not sure), but again I see no problem with you using the stats and flavoring it as a particularly nature-in-tune wood elf. I'm sure Wade will have some discomfort around Luna what with his history with magic, which seems like it could be fun.
@Oberon99: Intriguing picture, I look forward to learning more about Daryan! Lots of elf blood in this party so far, haha. I note that your background is criminal, so I'm thinking maybe you might be practicing magic outside the auspices of the Mages of High Sorcery. If so you'll have to keep your magic a secret... And convince Luna not to rat on you. Feels like there's a lot of potential there, but if you want to be part of the Mages that's fine too. Wade will probably be on edge around you regardless. : )

Happy to change to suit. Let me know what race would fit, I was thinking maybe Rogue class would fit better with this character when writing
@Honeymonstar: I don't have a problem with you being an Eladrin and flavoring it as you're some other sort of elf. But feel free to be any race, especially since you've been magically experimented on you might have ended up looking and being different than you went in. Rogue is fine too. : )
I Have A Idea For My Character, Basically Its A Aurak Draconian Betrayer That Left Due To Them Realising That Being A Glorified Manipulator Isn't Really What They Want To Do For There Life, So They Fled From The Army And Started A New Life, Yet His Power Weakened Over The Years Till Nothing, But A Small Spark Of Magic Lit Inside Of Him, Strangely Like A Calling From The Gods To Aid With The War, Now On A Different Side

@TheFanMan690: If possible could you not write everything capitalized, at least in this game? I find it hard to read, lol. As far as your idea, hmm... Obviously we could flavor the stats of a gold dragonborn as one of them with atrophied wings. There are a few problems story-wise however, the main one being that draconians are new on the scene in the region the game starts in. An alternative would be that you are an actual dragonborn that has somehow ended up in Krynn. Maybe it would be a mystery what you really are, maybe a visitor from another world or an unknowing avatar of one of the dragon gods. Hmm... Let me think on it some more, I'm hesitant.
@Everyone: New character creation rule, you can exchange your starting equipment for other equipment on a gold-value exchange.
