Looking for no more than 5 players to run a long term Tyranny of Dragons Campaign. The game will be run as a PbP over discord and using D&D beyond (or Avrae) for dice rolling.
I'll be looking to kick things off in the new year. Here's what I'm looking for:
1. I can commit to posting at least once daily, if not more (ideally more). I understand that life extends beyond D&D, so all I ask is for a heads up if you'll be absent or silent for a few days (or holidays), and I will extend you the same courtesy. I go on long distance hiking trips several times a year, and will be AFK during those times. Work may get in the way occasionally - I'll let you know if that happens.
2. If you are a min/maxer, please don't apply. This will be an RP heavy campaign and I will look to build the story around your PC's
3. Starting at lvl 1 with gold and equipment given to you by your class and background using 2014 rules (there may end up being a bit of a mix due to D&D Beyond doing its thing - I'm flexible)
4. Standard Array, Points Buy or Rolled Stats. For Rolled stats, no re-rolling 1's (this can make for really interesting character creation), but if you are not happy, you can re-roll a second set and chose between either.
5. Any source set in Faerun and the Sword Coast is fine. I'd ask you to keep away from any races that are too outlandish (Tortle for example). I'll judge each on its merits, and if you make a compelling case...
6. This wont be first come first served. Everyone will get careful consideration - I'm planning on working closely on backstory with you.
7. Beginners very welcome. Don't worry if you are unsure about things, we all started somewhere!
Character Name: Class and Subclass: Stats: Race: Roll twice on the trinket table (1d100 - I can tell you what you get): Character Sheet (Only if you have one ready!): Any other information you want to include:
Any questions, please ask, and thanks for looking.
I'm defiantly interested - I have a few character ideas in my head, not a min/maxer but along time RPGer with emphasis on role-playing.
With over 35 years of RPG experience I'm still a noob to D&D, having had limited player (PBm) and DM experience with a group of 11 year olds I'm introducing to role-playing.
Character Name: Runerock Hammerbreaker Class and Subclass: Lawful Neutral Paladin of Moradin Stats: SA ( 17 10 15 8 12 14 ) Race: Mountain Dwarf Trinket Table rolls: 7 and 1 ( Using the D&D Beyond Dice Roller ) Sheet: www.dndbeyond.com/sheet-pdfs/Gudmo_81456003.pdf I have a seperate document I can share with the full backstory
Interested, when you mentioned a mix of builds in section 3 above, did you mean character builds that pick and choose between 2014 and 2024 character creation rules or that you might be open to 2024 characters?

I would prefer 2014 PC's if possible. I've not looked at the new PHB at all really, though a lot of the rules come up on the character app automatically now. In terms of rules and rulings in play, I'll be leaning towards 2014, though if there are things that enhance gameplay it may be a case of mix and match.
I'll take these! Wow! Edit: DDB roller messed up the rolls as usual so I just rolled in sheet. ( 14, 8, 17, 16, 9, 14 )

Calix Vexshade hails from the desolate frontier town of Black Hollow, a forgotten settlement on the edge of a cursed forest. Life there was harsh, and Calix's family eked out a living by scavenging relics from ancient ruins. On one such excursion, Calix uncovered a shattered, ebony blade lodged within a crumbling altar. As his fingers brushed the hilt, the blade's voice echoed in his mind, promising him power and protection in exchange for servitude. As Calix accepting the agreement in his mind, the blade transformed into black smoke that entered into Calix's body granting him powerful abilities. After his town realized he had made a devil's pact, he was banished and now wanders from one strange land to another.

Brom was never good at ... well, much. The slow pace of life in the hold, the laborious pace of a blacksmith apprenticeship (which he wasn't good at) and the ever-present obsequious preening to the old and stuffy always chafed him like breeches full of nettles. Brom needed to move, to be able to try things and fail not suffer the disappointed glances of old dwarves who had centuries to figure it out. What good was their doling out wisdom at a glacial pace when the world moved so fast?
No, Brom was not good at a lot of things expected of him among his people. But he was very good at identifying what not to do. Often because he did it. Like not rushing the quenching of a blade, or not muttering under your breath when an elder took their time with a public announcement. But especially, Brom now knew not to punch a priest of Moradin during a sermon. No matter that the sermon was about community and carrying your fair share, no matter that the priest called Brom out in everything but name, no matter. Only thing that mattered was not breaking an arrogant, stuffy cleric's nose when they talked poorly of you in front of the hold. Moradin forbid!
As the threat of severe punishment, maybe even exile was floated, Brom cut to the chase. He took an axe and poorly cut off his beard and hair. As the crowd stared in awkward silence, Brom roared, "Stop mincin' about! I'll just go!" And turned and left, right then and there.
Brom wandered for a bit, mostly being an angry pair of fists for a few coins and a dry place to sleep, until he met a halfling who knocked him to the ground faster than he could blink. Already lacking the ego of his kin, and further diminished by a life of desperate survival, Brom dropped to his knees and asked to learn. Much to his surprise, the halfling accepted. And so Brom became a student of one of the few Hin Fist monasteries outside of Luiren.
Brom appreciated the difficulty now. He knew what the end goal was, and he wanted that same skill and balance and calm he saw in his teacher. But the self-mastery was hard for Brom. And when he came close to repeating his old mistakes, his master stopped him and advised he travel for a bit, putting into practice what he had learned before returning to continue his lessons. Brom, finally realizing someone was looking out for him, accepted. He packed up what little he had and left for Neverwinter, to see more of the world he was angry his hold had ignored in favor of tradition and standing still.

Backstory: Kaelan was born to a tribe of Shifters living isolated in the large forest. Unlike most of the Shifters in this community, Kaelan’s Shifter transformation doesn’t toughen his skin or grow fangs. Instead his fur color simply shifts to match the terrain around, making it easier for him to hide. He’s the only one in the village with this condition, which is seen as a weakness. Despite the love of his parents, the others in the community treat Kaelan as an outsider. The worst offender is his own brother. One day during a particularly rough beating from his brother and other boys, his instincts kicked in. His hands became razor sharp claws and he just wanted the beating to stop! Before he knew it, the other boys were in full flight and his brother lay breathing and gasping on the ground wearing a look of pure terror. Before Kaelan could do anything, his brother took his last breath. Not knowing what else to do, Kaelan flees. He leaves his community, his forest, and everyone he loves and just keeps running. He flees towards civilization where he’s confident his family will never go to find him. Now he wanders the reals, trying to understand this new power within him.
(I also have a Dwarven Battlerager and a Halfling Rune Knight available if one of them would fit better)

After watching a street musician make a pile of gold in a short time, he nabbed the nearest lute he could find and started learning to play. He not only had an aptitude for music and arts, he also learned he could somewhat control the weave through his performance. He uses these skills along with his considerable street smarts to con the rich out of their coin and make himself a tidy living.

Kellen Rivian(Level 12 Lore Bard)- Ghosts of Saltmarsh (cbaer8)
Ruven Gilrel (Level 4 Bladesinger)- The Shattered Obelisk
Thank you so far everyone. I'm going to leave this open a few days before I make a decision. Party makeup is going to be quite important, and I'd like to have a good balance of classes, but there are some great character concepts so far. Please bear with me as I will likely not reply to you all until I've made the decision.
The trinket results are very interesting - I've made a note of who has rolled what (and re-rolled a couple of duplicates - the forum dice roller is...meh). I find them great for injecting a bit of creativity into backstories.
There will likely also be some background stuff assigned to your PC's which should help fleshing out some why's, what's, where's and when's!
thanks for laying out your expectations! intertying Backgrounds with dm and other player cooperation is a part of the game ive sorely missed the last few years! Let’s see what the stats look like and what weakness can become interesting for storyline… will cook on the idea for a day or two and post something with these stats soon!

Hmmm… ok, I tried, but I couldn’t think of how to make the 3s work with my character, so I went with point buy. Here he is :
Name : Dhutat Stormbrew
Class : Cleric (eventually Trickery domain)
Race : Mountain Dwarf
Trinket rolls : 27 and 85
Background : Urchin
Background : Dhutat Stormbrew is a rather slender dwarf wearing leather armor and a look like you have seen him somewhere, but you just can’t place it. But also the look of someone who can fade into a crowd. He’s wearing leather armor and has a hammer slung over his back, a couple of daggers at his side. He wears a cloak and his shield is nondescript, but if you look closely, there are stars carved into it and a set of eyes carved into the middle.
Dhu grew up in Silverymoon, he can’t even remember where he was originally from, but a poor elvish family raised him. He learned about their Goddess Selûne and he was given education about the moon goddess, thoughts about how to please her. What he learned is that he felt her pleasure when he was out at night, pulling all sorts of tricks and chicanery. All in good fun. Mostly.
He fell in with some elves and another dwarf that would roam the streets at night, doing their own version of justice to the streets of Silverymoon. Dhu began to learn of gifts his Lady gave to him, help in getting away, cracking locks that were difficult, and healing his friends when they got in a tight scrape. He grows restless and starts to make his way to Waterdeep to learn of the world around him, to see if he can learn from others since he’s gathered all he can from Silverymoon. One night with a sack full of lifted snacks and goods, he leaves a note for his parents and heads out the door, eager to leave this town behind.
