Hi everybody. Just to get us all using 2024 characters more, I thought I would run something that will get experience with characters that doesn't require much thinking from me.
I therefore present to you: Swiftgale's Sanctum of Skill (thank you chatGPT for a name)
This is combat only, so keep that in mind with your builds. We start at level 1 and the party will be up against a hard encounter (but not an impossible one). After each encounter there will be a reward and a level up (unless the encounter is too easy and then there will be a second one before the level up). I will try and include maps but they will not be updated constantly (and likely no updates to maps over weekends, as I am typically mobile only then).
To apply:
Character name: Species: Background: Class (and preferred subclass): Favourite monster: (I will try and include this in a fight if appropriate) Preferred fighting tactic: Why you have chosen the class you have:
FAQs: (Prepopulating with some I have assumed will be asked)
Can I multiclass? Yes
What rulebooks can I use? Just 2024 PHB. It isn't a good test of the new options if we don't use them. Ideally I would be using 2024 MM for the fights but as it isn't out yet, and I had the idea now, that won't be the case.
When does the application period close? 17/12 at 12pm GMT.
Is there content sharing? Not by me. I don't have the master tier.
If you don’t know where I am, I’m either sleeping or roleplaying. If I’m doing neither of those things, except the worst. (Do not actually expect the worst) If you need to talk then PM me. Head Acolyte of The Tree Cult.
Character name: Twinkle Species: Goliath Background: Farmer Class (and preferred subclass): Monk, Warrior of the Elements Favourite monster: Beholders, alternatively any monster that has a random table Preferred fighting tactic: Getting up close, moving the enemies around to gain an advantage, such as pushing creatures away or prone Why you have chosen the class you have: Monk looks quite solid in 2024 and Elements monk was notoriously quite lackluster in 2014, so I would like to test how much that changed.
Preferred combat tactics: Debuff enemies, buff myself, then engage in melee combat
Why?: College of Dance is newest subclass for bard, letting bards become the third class to have unarmored defense, and the only spellcasting class with unarmored defense. Along with enabling a martial approach for the class, the bard can still spread bardic inspiration around and attack at the same time. In short, I want to make a Disco Warrior.
some semi joke characters I considered prior to this: Buddy the pal. Bird tree barb.
Character name: Emerian Species: High Elf Background: Custom (disciple of some monkish psychic monastery) Class (and preferred subclass): Rogue Soulknife, maybe/maybe not monk subclass Favourite monster: big fan of owlbear Preferred fighting tactic: Shoot and hide starting at level 2 Why you have chosen the class you have? Rogues are my favorite class in general; the combat is fun and they also have really great utility.
Character name: Enuffathus gloop (pronounced enough-of-this) Species: let’s try a halfling trickery cleric (or a human sorcerer if that is what you end up needing from me) Background: sage background, Class (and preferred subclass): I can play to group but my first choice is 1) trickery cleric and then 2) wild magic sorcerer if there is another cleric and an arcane caster is needed (to try out the new wild magic tables etc) Favourite monster: ( I know everyone will hate me for this, but the type of monsters that go for the kill when people are down, not just rush off to another pc) Preferred fighting tactic: Why you have chosen the class you have:
I like the trickery cleric as a thematic ever since critical role, and never had a chance to play it in game as im often in exceptionally hard games have other players who like to play healers so i get pushed to the charisma caster role often. ( or if the whole group is more ‘scared of buying type’ I end up having to take the paladin or fighter tank role frontlining for them. So the healer role is something I don’t get to be often due to the personality needs of many campaign parties I end up in.
i like wild magic scorcerer due to wanting to see how imbalanced or balanced the new wild magic table is… it seems strong as there are less bad effects, and if we are not multiclassing, then im curious to see how it holds up at low AC and how to build tactics around the things to be rolled (as in, maybe it’s not as random as it seems if you are prepared for the chances once played, but I am worried of the turn size bloat of rolling so many tides of chaos in a pbp setting so maybe not a good idea in the other hand to have a wild magic sorcerer! (Sorry for ramble, I think these might be important topics for game to not get bogged down, but im willing to try with you if you wanna look into it experimentally !
Character name: Zumfir Sathe Species: Elf - Drow lineage
Background: Sage
Class (and preferred subclass): Cleric (Life domain)
Favourite monster: My favourite monsters are Undead and Dragons in general, but if i could select one from the many, it would probably be a Dracolich! (An undead AND a dragon! who would have thought?)
Preferred fighting tactic: I prefer to stay on the backline, aiding the group with healing and buffs.
Why you have chosen the class you have: I like to be a support for the group. And being a Life domain Cleric, i would 100% focus on powerful healing effects, not letting anyone die.
Hiya, this looks great, and whilst I don't expect to get in, I'd be happy to throw my hat into the ring! Only question I've got is that will the full 2024 PHB will be available through content sharing in the campaign? If not, no worries, I can potentially pull a character together just from the basic options, or you can choose someone else that has the options readily available to themselves, which I think is a much better idea! Good luck to everybody that applies!
Character name: Calia Dunesurfer Species: Human Background: Guide Class (and preferred subclass): Fighter (Psi Knight) Favourite monster: Nothing particular, but I love encountering or running monsters with niche, specific weaknesses or features that make them unique and challenging to fight! Preferred fighting tactic: I try to be resourceful in combat and make use of all my class and species features. If there’s certain terrain features or objects within the battlefield that I can utilise, I try to make use of them too! Why you have chosen the class you have: I haven’t played a Fighter in recent memory, haven’t seen any other applications for one, and if it’s going to be combat oriented campaign, then I’d like to go with the best class for that, especially since I've got the itch to make a power-build!
Character name: Athos Species: Human (Tough as bonus origin feat) Background: Guard Class (and preferred subclass): Paladin (Oath of Glory) Favourite monster: Relentless Slasher Preferred fighting tactic: When I play a melee fighter, I like to be the tank. I usually try to take feats like sentinel to further compliment this. I do what I can to group enemies for AoE spells. Why you have chosen the class you have: Paladin's have it all when it comes to survivability. High AC, a little healing, plenty of ways to beat up creatures. And it has been a while since I've played a paladin.
Only question I've got is that will the full 2024 PHB will be available through content sharing in the campaign?
I don't have the master tier so can't share it myself. That isn't to say it won't be shared by someone else if they wish (but someone offering to share it won't change their chance of getting accepted)

Character name: Lippe Breeblebrox Species: Human Background: Guard Class (and preferred subclass): Cleric (War) Favourite monster: Dragons Preferred fighting tactic: Lippe is going to be straight up smash. May think about optioning fighter levels later. Why you have chosen the class you have: I usually play pure fighters, but like the idea of a support tank as well....
Character name: Gimmond Strongreach Species: Dwarf Background: Soldier Class (and preferred subclass): Fighter (Debating between Battlemaster or the 'buffed' Eldritch Knight') Favorite monster: Big Fan of Oozes and Elementals, and yet favorite monsters are Canoloth (Such good doggies!) Preferred fighting tactic: Up close and personal with weapons either with reach or cleave Why you have chosen the class you have: I tend to wind up playing a support role often in most campaigns, so looking to branch out a bit. And given some of the chances martials are starting to look even more fun! Though I will admit to considering the updated wild mage sorcerer or a muscle wizard Orc for added amusement.

With the new changes War Domain seems interesting so I want to give that subclass a try.
class and preferred subclass: Artillerist artificer
Favourite monster: any constructs
Fighting tactic: cast spells with absolutely no moral code and makes attacks that would violate even a barbarians code of ethics.
*was edited on dec 18 because i posted my warlock instead of my artificer. old character below. my bad, sorry.*
Character name: Griff Hawthorn Species: Lizardfolk Background: Haunted one Class (and preferred subclass): pact of the blade Warlock Favourite monster: Humanoids Preferred fighting tactic: asilent and deadly.
Character name: Tucker Saurthorn Species: human Background: Sage Class (and preferred subclass): wizard - Evocation Savant Favourite monster: not really sure I have one, maybe a lich or the classic dragon Preferred fighting tactic: battle mage like, not hiding in the back with the other squishes, closer to the front and flinging damage spells Why you have chosen the class you have: I usually like to build a character around an RP idea, picking skills, feats, spells to go along with my idea of what the character is or where they came from. Try to answer the questions like how would this character have learned this or why would he have any use for that. I'd like to see what a strictly offensive wizard build would be like. Was playing around with this build and cast witch bolt hit with a nat 20 and did 42 pts of damage, at first level. Was stoked.

I chose Druid cause I like the wild shape feature.
Lightning flashes, it creates ash. The ash forms a human.

First question: [ spell ] *EnterSpellName* [ /spell ] But with no spaces in the brackets, ie. chill touch
Second question: Taking into account the crit + the full minute's duration of 1d12s, it is fairly easy to get 42 damage.
[A paper drops out of a flash of light and drifts to the ground at your feet] -(extended sig)-
To link you type it out like so
Open bracket [ then the word spell then close bracket then spell name followed by open bracket [ the backwards slash / the word spell close bracket
witch bolt does 2d12, rolled a nat 20 0n the attack roll doubling damage to 4d12
In other words, lucky rolls
