The following are the rules for posting and playing in this game. Please read these rules carefully and follow them as you best can. Always feel free to ask questions or for clarification on rules.
Posting
When not in battle, post to your heart's content. When in battle, only post for your turn if you can, but feel free to quip if you'd like.
All posts should be in the third person. I do not care about your tense as long as I can read it!
Use "Quotations" when you speak. Pick a color and use that color for your speech. This makes posts easier to read and see who is talking. Bolding your speech is recommended, but not enforced. Please choose a color that is easy to read. You may be asked to change the color of your speech.***
Sentences should be complete. No chatroom speak or excessive use of shorthand.
Most rolls will occur in the thread. Some rolls can occur in Discord (for example, you are unable to post a roll via mobile). There may be moments, for the sake of secrecy, you may be asked to roll in private. I'll provide direction on when this happens. 😃
Keep most OOC to the OOC thread or discord aside from leaving quick questions or statements inside of (parenthesis).
When using abilities, please provide the tooltip if you can! (Example in spoiler)
How do the tooltips/links to spells etc work?
D&D Beyond offers the ability to link certain aspects on the forum in mouse-over triggered tooltips, such as magic items, monsters or combat actions - examples being Adult Black Dragon and dash. To create tooltips in this way as these, use the appropriate [tag][/tag] around the desired subject.
Example: [ magicitem]sunblade[/ magicitem] (Without spaces within the [ ] brackets.)
When we are in combat, feel free to post your turn whenever even when out of sequence. The DM will summarize everyone's posts and include enemy action and movement at the end of the round.
Home Rules
Epic Heroism: Short Rests are 5 Minutes. Long Rests are 1 Hour.
Healing Surge: As an action, a character can spend up to half their hit die to recover HP in battle. You roll the die and add your constitution modifier. You cannot use this action again until after you complete a short/long rest. First level characters cannot use Healing Surge.
Inspiration Action: Inspiration can be stored and you can have a maximum of 3 points. You may spend 3 inspiration points to take an additional action during your turn. This action can only be used for a Standard or Movement action.
Passive Initiative: Initiative will not be rolled. It will be determined with the following calculation: 8 + Dex Mod + Any bonuses.
Battle Summary: Everyone will post their turn in battle when they can instead of posting via initiative order. DM will sum up the battle in their post which will include what the enemies are doing. This means you may not know what the enemy is doing until the DM posts the summary. Whenever a player takes an action that would become null and void due to player or enemy movements, DM will contact player over Discord -or- will redirect player action in a way that is beneficial to the player (whichever player prefers).
Help Action: When one character help actions another character outside of combat, they either must be trained in the same skill as the check OR they must be able to justify why a different trained skill would help. The player must also roleplay out exactly what they do to help. Help Action in battle still grants advantage. No skill check required.

You find yourselves in the Golden Hilt Tavern, located in good old Downstairs. Downstairs, or Lower Menthis Plateau to you tourists, is a place of great, and cheap, fun. The drinks might not be fancy or high class, but damn if they aren't affordable. You've come together tonight to catch up, but to also discuss a mutually beneficial business proposal.
Non-students and non-Trigger, read the following spoiler:
This is perfect. Some of you have learned, perhaps the hard way, that life in the City of Towers is never easy and everyone must work to earn their share. You may be from Sharn or from somewhere else in Khorvaire, but money is running out and the city is expensive. Fortunately, the two students (whom you either know directly or through a friend) want to talk about going on an expedition for some professor at Morgrave University. The girls seem to have gathered you to gauge interest, but perhaps to see if you are fit for the task.
Students, read the following spoiler:
You've gathered friends and acquaintances here tonight to help you with your expedition. Should this meeting go well, you plan to visit the professor at his office tomorrow morning. Professor Daela appears to have come to you both for this assignment as the rest of your class seems to be filled primarily with people more concerned with theory than application! It seems that not only will you receive a favorable score from the professor if this mission is successful, but he will also pay you some sum of gold too. He is willing to pay a total of 230 gold for the schema. Of course, it will be up to you to determine how much gold to offer members of your expedition. Should the party attempt to haggle they would need to take that up with the professor. All you know of the job is that it's located in the Depths.
Trigger-only:
Berlyn has requested your assistance for the upcoming mission, and you are glad to help. You know that, should Professor Daela accept the proposed party, you will be able to apply for requisitions from MU and receive items for use in the retrieval of this schema. You also know, from all your time spent with the professor, that he typically bestows such artifacts to Haras Kant, a wealthy Brelish aristocrat. Kant typically funds research at the university, so this partnership is pretty important.
(Make your entrance and describe yourselves! If you'd like, you can roll History checks to know more about Sharn at large and more about Professor Daela. Anyone who grew up in Sharn has advantage to know more about Sharn. Students and Trigger have advantage to know more about Daela.)

Emanuel and Lily walk into the tavern J'Sahn directed them to. The tavern's eyes all go to her, as they should; while Eman's eyes are on the crowd, checking for dangers as well as these new allies.
Lily stands out as usual, in her form fitting white dress; while Eman had dressed for the occasion, wearing a long leather jacket, which he often uses to double as armor at times when his adventures lead to fisticuffs.
He has the coat buttoned up, incase of danger; his long black hair spilling out over the collar. Against his back, sits his travel pack, incase the adventure begins immediately. Sticking out past his pack is the hilt of a large greatsword. Though plain in design, the sword's length and girth is where the beauty is; in its sheer damage potential.

Lily sweeps into the room with a coy smile upon her lips, that seemingly endless one that can, at the same moment, calm a rage or inflame desire. She seems to blossom and grow with the attention directed at her, her eyes sweeping over the room and as she tries to take in all the people gathered there. Her fingers wrap around the handle of the smooth, white wood of her cane as her piercing eyes match all those who stare at her long enough and she gauges the intent behind those eyes.

Berlyn looks around the tavern with a keen and eager eye. She looks to her companion expectantly for signs of recognition then back to the patrons taking in all the details.
Though her clothes are well-made and of very fine materials—leather and silk in jeweled tones—they are functional and practical, designed for ease of movement, comfort, and protection. Her sleek black bob conveys both seriousness and whimsy and her large violet eyes are sharp and discerning.
She hopes these people will be able to assist them, that they will be capable and willing. She is grateful that S’Jahriel had local contacts as hers were mostly connected to the House. She wanted to keep this separate, to prove what she could do on her own...well with the assistance of a few others. Besides, it’s a school assignment, using House connections would be akin to cheating. She spots Trigger, glad he is here; a warforged would be a welcome companion on this venture. She hopes these others will be as well.
As Berlyn and her companion approach the tavern, Trigger tilts his head forward in a slight bow.
"Good evening, Miss d'Medani. I hope you don't mind, but I invited an associate from a previous expedition. He has yet to arrive, so I would like to wait here for a while in case he shows up. I will join you inside before too long, if that is alright."
