I had a thread recruiting people for Waterdeep Dragon Heist last week and unfortunately a pair of the people I recruited had to drop due to out of game commitments. I am currently looking for 2 or 3 people to join the campaign. We had just reached the first combat so we are going to reset to the start so that everyone is fully caught up and has a chance to meet each other.
Welcome to the city of splendors. No matter if you come from near or far, Waterdeep is a city full of adventure. For one reason or another you have come to the city and found your way to the Yawning Portal, an inn for adventurers, whether if be to stay, to look for work, to drink, or to meet with friends.
I am looking for between 2 to 3 adventurers of the first level to join in a treasure hunt across the city. There shall be a lot of roleplay, some exciting fights, mysteries to be solved, and villains to defeat. I would ask that you try to tie your character to Waterdeep, the entire adventure happens in the city and there are opportunities to join guilds like the Zhentarim, Xanathar's guild, the Order of the Gauntlet, the Harpers, the Lord's Alliance, Force Grey, Emerald Enclave, Bregan D'aerthe, along with all of the city's smaller guilds. The more attached you are to the city the better.
For character creation, 4d6 reroll 1s once for stats, you can reroll if you have less than 70 total or use point buy. Tasha's racial and class options are all okay, if you want custom lineage, I just want you to give a reason why you are using it over a normal race. UA content is generally okay as long as you check in with me, I just like warning when it comes to that.

Backstory: Corlin is among the few of his people that managed to stay alive after the destruction of their city Bligdenstone, returning to the area of the Underdark where it had existed years later with his family. During this early stage the deep gnomes began to build a small community, simply calling it New Bligdenstone.
While most of the work was done on their own, some of the deep gnomes began to venture out to travel out to make contact with others of their kind and to check on their old trading routes, one of which led to the Surface City of Waterdeep via the Undermountain. During one such journey, Corlin decided to join in on it, wanting to learn more of the world outside of the ramshackle settlement he had been living in since he was young.
While the trek was dangerous, the gnomes managed to make it to the city, using old maps to find an old trade settlement that was set up near the surface. Making this their base of operations, Corlin and other made their way into the city, trading some gems and ore they had mined in order to set up new trade and information networks. Corlin goes on several such trips, spending more time on the surface to make their presence a common occurance.
Fun fact about you: I have read almost every book in the Drizzt series and several other novels that are set in the Forgotten Realms.
D&D experience: I've been playing D&D on and for several years, having played a bit before 4e came out and then restarting once 5e started. I have mostly been a player with a very small amount of time as a DM.
Have you played WDH before, if so what villain was used: I only played enough to get just past the first combat, with the dm disappearing soon after.
Backstory: Eranus was like many others of her race shamed for beeing a dark elf But unlike others dark elves she followed the church of Eilistraee and wished to be freed of the shackles that her race created on her On a dark night of hunting she was saved by a wood elf from Waterdeep against an attack by several wolves . For the first time in her life someone from the outside didn´t looked at her with hatred or disgust. After saving her he left, but Eranus followed him later discovering that he belonged to the Harpers. But on that same night she saw his group getting slaughter by the Zhentarim. She then decided to honor him by joining the same guild on Waterdeep and to get revenge against the Zhentarim

Backstory: Gorm was born and raised on the streets of Waterdeep. Not the classy, fancy, highbred streets but the back alleys and ghetto areas. They made do however they could and that led to some petty thievery, some scraps, some close calls. None of it ever broke them out of the spiral of poverty though... But eventually Gorm stole from the wrong, or rather the right, person. After giving them the butt kicking the most definitely deserved, this person took the time to pick Gorm back up onto their feet, tell them exactly what they did wrong in the fight, and then demonstrate again in much slower motion. Getting your butt kicked twice in a row by the same person, the second time while they're explaining exactly how they are doing it, is quite embarrassing...
"I am Umbra Q'teeral. Tomorrow at this time I will be in the stone garden three streets over, and one up? Do you know it? Well then, come then if you wish another lesson," the cheerful human said. Then after a short bow, the wandered off in that direction.
Was it stubbornness? Stupidity? Pride? Gorm could never quite decide but despite having absolutely no intention of ever going within a mile of that stone garden, they of course found themself there the next day at the appointed time.
Over time the butt kickings became less severe and less frequent. But they have yet to disappear altogether and Gorm has yet to actually defeat Umbra Q'teeral. One day though... One day.
It was through their teacher's lessons that Gorm came to realize that it is only through knowledge and experience that they would ever learn new and unique techniques which may give them a true fighting chance. It is with that in mind that Gorm Diabhal has taken to seeking out adventure and new experiences....
((Sorry, nothing to tie them into Waterdeep itself as opposed to any other city. I am not really conversant in the campaign or it's setting or it's guilds since I have never before played it...))
Fun fact about you: I have never eaten cheesecake. Cake should not be made of cheese, and cheese should not be cake-ified. Is that fun?
D&D experience: Played AD&D back in early 80s for a couple years then the game basically disappeared out of my life until about a year ago when I just started getting curious about it again. I was just about to find a gaming shop to check out this Adventurer's League stuff when the pandemic hit and that put an end to that idea. But I found D&DB and started playing some Play by Post and that's my experience...

I grew up in a noble family of Waterdeep. growing up, I was taught how to be a politician, how to game people. my parents wished me to join the Waterdeep council, and thus bring honer to my family name.
there was just one problem. I hated politics. I hated playing people, lying, saying things to make me look good, and devoting my whole life to arguing! the only part of it I enjoyed was keeping order, and delivering justice.
one day, I was walking through Waterdeep, in one of my few moments of free time. as I walked, a women walked up to me and told me of the deity Torm. suddenly I knew what to do with my life. I devoted myself to Torm, doing his will.
I follow Torm to this day...

As a follower of Tempus Ugotir has spend most of his life so far in glorious battle on the battlefields defending the city of Waterdeep. Recently he has been blessed by his god and has gotten additional powers. This was around the time he was recruited by the Lords' Alliance for his glorious combat, though they have some doubts about the wisdom in his choices sometimes.
After joining the Alliance, he was assigned on duty within the city. Currently he is not sure what he should think about it, since there has not been a lot of combat to dedicate to Tempus lately, but he made a deal and won't back out of it easily and see what this adventure will bring.
