hello, i was wandering, when it saying that a monster have resistance to Bludgeoning, Lightning, Piercing, Slashing in 2024 book, is he also ressistant to magic attack of those kind like in the 2014 version or he become ressistant of all kind ?
i found it a little strong if he ressist Bludgeoning, Lightning, Piercing, Slashing even if from a magic attack (let say from a spear +1).

example of monster a Air elemantal.
If the stat block says it has resistance to a particular damage type, it includes both magical and non-magical sources of that damage type unless it specifically says otherwise.
They have effectively removed the relevance of "magic" damage. The way stuff overcomes damage restistances is now with rarely-resisted damage types like Force, Radiant, etc. This means that generic "magic weapons" are a little less necessary.

I think this is generally a positive change for two reasons:
It minimizes the chance of people getting into stupid annoying arguments about whether a particular instance of damage is "magical" or not
I think generic magic weapons are boring
But I know some people weren't a fan of it, partly because it left some creatures (like lycanthropes) without some of the same flavor they used to have.

Absolutely. It also makes the game simpler, by effectlively cutting the number of damage types in half makes regular damage resistances a little more special (which also means they've been made more rare, which punishes martials less)
Exactly. It's fine when you need a special weapon to kill a Werewolf or something, but it's dumb when nearly everything has resistance. I also hope they've cut back on the number of creatures with Magic resistance. Nearly everything having advantage on saves in the Avernus campaign I played in got annoying https://speedtest.vet/https://vidmate.bid/.

There's nothing flavorful about using a +1 sword against a lycanthrope to start with.

@Master_Lems_ If it's interesting for you, some opinions about the change were shared here: Opinions about removal of resistances and immunities from 2024 Monster Manual?
