When you multi class into Rogue I understand all the rules about prerequisites and additional proficiencies (main one being thieves tools), and also that you don’t get the starting equipment of your new class. The way I understand the use of Thieves’ Tools is that you need to have both the physical tools AND the proficiency to be able to use them. So, if I’m a Fighter (who does not have Thieves’ Tools) and I multiclass into Rogue, I get the thieves tools proficiency, but it’s unclear if you actually get the physical thieves tools (I would say not since you don’t get the starting equipment, but I’m not sure)
Does anyone have any clarification on if you actually collect the tools when you take the first Rogue level (as a multiclass) or if you need to find them in game to be able to use the proficiency
In my game, when you go up a level, or multi class you would of been practicing, learning any new skills etc before moving up.
So I would of bought / acquired the theives tools prior to leveling up in order to of been practicing with them. Or bothered another player in the group to teach me, using their set.

I apologize in advance for this, but there’s a metaphorical grammar goblin in my head screaming at me in my mother’s voice to tell you that it is “would have” not “would of.”
