Hello everyone this thread is for DM's to create idea to challenge the players though if you are not one but have idea you are welcome to stay.
As right now ive been a dm for a small group but i've seen even my players have begun to get bored of the regular run and gun the next dungeon so ive began to build puzzles that seemed to bring back their life in the campaign thus i decided to type this thread up.
If interested simply type up an idea up leave it here for other people to mess with or maybe use in there next session maybe make a game of it such as one leaves an idea then challenges the next post with a themed idea.
As to get the ball rolling I will leave one of my favorite ideas.
As the players enter a room they stand before two cloaked figures they say "one claims to be an angel and the other a demon one tells a truth the other lie if you if you guess correctly it will let you through but if guessed wrong they will die." Two doors will then appear if the players guess wrong they will be transported to a room that if filled with a large number of low level enemies and upon winning will be brought to the room once more the puzzle restarting and the doors switching places. If correct they will continue unhindered.
Hope you liked the idea and if you want try making a puzzle based on the four elements.
Human. Male. Possibly. Don't be a divider. My characters' backgrounds are written like instruction manuals rather than stories. My opinion and preferences don't mean you're wrong. I am 99.7603% convinced that the digital dice are messing with me. I roll high when nobody's looking and low when anyone else can see.🎲 “It's a bit early to be thinking about an epitaph. No?” will be my epitaph.
one lies/one tells the truth...easy way to get past is to walk up to one and say "my name is (insert character name), did I just tell you my name is (insert character name)?" If you asked the one that lies, they say no, the one that tells the truth says yes.
Heres a trap idea for some round the table interaction, it revolves around using the frame and counters from the game Connect 4.
The frame has 42 holes and there are 42 playing counters/pieces.
In D&D terms each counter has a word written on it and when put into the frame it spells out a series of words, which when read aloud, unlock a door, but for each counter that is in the wrong place something nasty happens to the PC's.
if the PC's reset the frame (by opening the bottom to retrieve the counters) something nasty happens to them. Counters can only enter through the top of the frame and be removed through the bottom.
Nastiness the PC's can come across can be based around the Glyph of Warding spell, if the DM is feeling particularly prepared they can make a crib sheet with each word written on it and a corresponding effect that occurs if the word/counter is in the wrong place.
PC's have a scavenger hunt style adventure to locate all the counters, this can be a one shot or escape room style with them locked in a haunted house and they need to complete the puzzle to be able to escape the house or maybe done over a few adventures to unlock a vault of treasure.
The best part is the players all get to physically interact with the frame and counters.
42 words is a lot but they can be either random words (in which case you have to leave hints about which order they need to be put into the frame) or they could spell a sentence.
Either way, I would have the first word be in the top left corner so the words have to be put in reverse order to correctly spell out the message.

* Need a character idea? Search for "Rob76's Unused" in the Story and Lore section.
Make it two sided. When the counters are inserted correctly, it has a different complete sentence on both sides starting from the top left of each side. No hint on which word faces which direction, though. So, take care to not line up swappable nouns or verbs on the same counter.
...or better yet, it's in Infernal, so a single counter can be a complete sentence and mismatching Infernal glyphs can wreak havoc. To the untrained eye, they'll all look like small, elaborate summoning circles of various designs inscribed on both sides, but they're just ordinary Infernal... as ordinary as the laboriously precise Infernal language can be. The Infernal counters will each be a complete sentence that, when the counters are ordered correctly, tell a series of events with clues to the order of events - partially being what's paired on the other side of each counter, partially the sentences themselves, partially with clues nearby such as solving a crime in the area and reconstructing the scenario with the Infernal counters.

Shoot one in the foot with an arrow. Whoever acknowledges it correctly is telling the truth.

Get a sphinx in and it's riddle time! I have one:
When halfway through it's end,
One of these makes you joyful,
None make you sad,
If you live life with out them, no one will like you.
