Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement)
These gloves seem to almost meld into your hands when you don them. When a ranged weapon attack hits you while you're wearing them, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier, provided that you have a free hand. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the missile if it is small enough for you to hold in that hand.
Notes: Warding, Handwear
these are op
what if these worked on magic missiles?
yo my character got this and theyre wicked sick
except it was at the very end of our campaign and it was gifted to me by a squid kid and im a life cleric
Cool!
Would these stack with the Monk ability Deflect Missiles?
I'd say no, they're separate abilities that both take a reaction. It's up to the DM but I think it be OP if they did
Can the caught missile be thrown back as an attack even though my character isn’t a monk?
Negative. The item would say so if it did, plus the throw feature of the monk requires ki points.
Good to know! Thank you very much!
How are they op?
Bcuz you can deflect/reduce dealt by all ranged attacks
Ranged weapons, not all ranged attacks. Though it’d be humorous to see someone try and catch a Fireball.
armorer artificer and use them with Shield of Missile Attraction
Imagine using these with a monk, can those stack?
You only get 1 reaction per round, so if you use deflect missiles you can’t use the gloves on the same round.
Only one ranged attack per round and only if you still have reaction available.
The description states "...provided that you have a free hand" which is annoyingly vague. Does this imply that if I'm holding a two handed melee or ranged weapon that I can't use it? Because realistically I could...you know...take one-hand off and just deflect then go back to gripping my weapon with two hands.
If the above is the intent, it should be more specific.
Yes. Two handed weapons only need two hands to attack with them. On the same note, you can use a free hand to cast if you hold a two handed weapon. As long as you#re not attacking with them, one hand is enough to keep it on you.
they are technically separate abilities that take separate reactions, so you can't, so it is useless for a monk, but makes any character able to copy that monk ability so many DM's would allow you to stack them
however not only does it have to be a ranged weapon attack, but it uses your reaction so you can only do it once per round and you can't use that reaction for something else
