Wondrous Item, uncommon (requires attunement)
These gloves seem to almost meld into your hands when you don them. When a ranged weapon attack hits you while you're wearing them, you can use your reaction to reduce the damage by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier, provided that you have a free hand. If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch the missile if it is small enough for you to hold in that hand.
Notes: Warding, Handwear
how do y'all describe what happens when you use these to reduce damage, but not to zero? When you reduce it all the way to zero, you catch it. What is your character doing in-universe otherwise?
I'd rule it as: If the damage isn't reduced to zero, the character either deflects the attack so that it doesn't hit a vital area or they manage to knock the projectile aside but it injures their hand in some way.
If the damage is low and *barely* gets through I have them catch it but just a tad bit late so they take a superficial and yet bloody wound.
Otherwise, grazes. Impacts in non-vital areas etc.
I would say no, it's a range 'weapon' attack. Otherwise it would simply state ranged attack, or ranged spell attack.
Larian Studios must have seen your comment as these negates magic missile in BG3 XD
I have a question as a dm. I am throwing an npc at my players, one of which is an arcane archer. Would these nullify his arcane shots such as grasping shot or banishing shot?
Can someone answer a DND Beyond functionality question for me regarding this item? I'm a level 3 Druid, and got this item as the "spoils of war" after a fight when level 2. I took a long rest and marked it as "attuned", but it doesn't show up in the list of reactions. Did I miss a step in the process, or is it just that is something I have to remember is a reaction for my character?
If it's a matter of taking a short rest to study it, I don't see that option in the short rest panel.
Bear in mind, I have a general understanding of DnD, but this is my first time playing and first time using DnD Beyond.
