Wondrous Item, rare
You can use an action to blow this horn. In response, 2d4+2 warrior spirits from the Valhalla appear within 60 feet of you. They use the statistics of a berserker. They return to Valhalla after 1 hour or when they drop to 0 hit points. Once you use the horn, it can't be used again until 7 days have passed.
Notes: Summoning
Just obtained this and looking forward to trying it out.
How did it go? I am thinking about giving it to one of my players (Oath of Devotion[Thor] Paladin) so it would be perfect for him. But I am not sure if the amout of berserkers is balanced.
It wasn't as effective as I had hoped, but it was certainly useful. Our DM decided to have them spawn randomly, as opposed to having a say in where they spawn. They have no ranged attacks, but can be pretty effective at providing enemy with other targets and also can do some decent damage to a few foes. I have used the horn a few times now and I don't know how we would have survived without them in some battles. It would be too powerful to give out too early, but to obtain it somewhere near level 9 - 10 should be ok.
Ohh okay. So I'm gonna wait a bit longer till I give it out to my players. They just got their Level-Up to level 6. Or maybe I'll reduce the number of allies spawned and make it scale with the paladin and his quests. Nevertheless thank you for your reply.
You could always customise the horn so it spawns fewer spirits at first. maybe 1 d4 until they move up to level 10. That way they get to use something awesome, but it won't be too overpowered. Lets not forget, they only get to use it once per 7 days.
Perfect to give to my Aasimar PC for serving his Deva!
Just got them in our campaign, about to wreak havoc.
So, the silver Horn, alone among these horns, lacks the text that they are friendly and follow your commands... The other horns have conditions for friend/foe activity, but not this horn. Is this an oversight? Or open to the GM's interpretation? If they are spawned as randoms, this could be a real "ballroom blitz" situation.
That looks like just a DnD Beyond issue flowing down the properties to this particular version (maybe because it has no requirements like the others?). The DMG and the main page for this item (https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/5414-horn-of-valhalla) mention the friendly/follow commands stuff and this applies to all variants.
Do the berserkers have their own initiative or do they use the summoners initiative?
