Weapon (glaive, greatsword, longsword, rapier, scimitar, or shortsword), very rare (requires attunement)
When you hit with an attack roll using this magic weapon, the target takes an extra 1d6 Cold damage. In addition, while you hold the weapon, you have Resistance to Fire damage.
In freezing temperatures, the weapon sheds Bright Light in a 10-foot radius and Dim Light for an additional 10 feet.
When you draw this weapon, you can extinguish all nonmagical flames within 30 feet of yourself. Once used, this property can’t be used again for 1 hour.

Posted Oct 30, 2024No idea why Frost Brand is still restricted to a handful (albeit expanded to 2014) of weapon types, and Flame Tongue was extended to all melee weapons.

Posted Nov 13, 2024Glad to see they kept it in the rules and reused the art. Fans of a certain book series would understand why.

Posted Dec 4, 2024Strange to me that it has no bonus to attack rolls despite being a very rare magic item. I would have expected at least a +1 (already gets cold damage, so I guess no need for a generic damage bonus).

Posted Dec 8, 2024Because it has a feature connected to drawing the weapon, so it requires being in a sheath. Honestly, glaive being one of the weapontypes is a bit of a stretch

Posted Jan 13, 2025I think the resistance aspect is what got it to very rare.

Posted Sep 14, 2025DMs provide magic weapons, both in drops and at magic stores. It is a simple adaptation for a DM to provide a weapon type with frost brand properties, either on commission, quest, random drop, or available at a magic shop.
The extra cold damage turns out to be just a little less than a +2 rapier would do, on average. Considering the fire resistance as well, very rare seems appropriate.

Posted Sep 22, 2025Agree that this should be available as more weapon types.
