False Appearance. While the vampire rose remains motionless, it is indistinguishable from any other flowering shrub of its type. When it attacks, thorn covered whip-like tendrils reach out to strike.
Blood Drain. Melee Weapon Attack: +3 to hit, reach 10 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d4 + 4) piercing damage, and the rose attaches to the target if it rolls a 20. While attached, the rose doesn't attack. Instead, at the start of each of the rose's turns, the target loses 6 (1d4 + 4) hit points due to blood loss.
The rose can detach itself as a free action. It does so after it drains 20 hit points of blood from the target or the target dies. To break free the target must succeed on a Strength (Athletics) or Dexterity (Acrobatics) check opposed by the rose's Strength (Athletics) check.
Description
A vampire rose is a magical plant of unknown origins that can pull its roots freely from the ground and move about slowly. It appears to be a green leafy shrub covered in sharp thorns and large white blossoms that turn red after it absorbs the blood of victims.
Medium and large versions of the vampire rose have been known to exist, particularly in well cultivated gardens where they are fed well. A medium sized rose gains one Hit Die, +1 to Strength and deals an additional damage die, while a large rose gains 2 additional Hit Die, +2 to Strength and two additional damage dice.
Lair and Lair Actions
It tends to settle in places were it can easy catch prey, sometimes along animals trails and even roads. They have also known to be captured and maintained in fenced areas, remaining so as long as their physical needs are met. Although it seems to be a green plant that requires sunlight, it does not. All it's nutrient requirements come from blood and decomposing remains of creatures.
