Air Form. The elemental can enter a hostile creature's space and stop there. It can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.
Multiattack. The elemental makes two slam attacks.
Slam. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 14 (2d8 + 5) bludgeoning damage.
Whirlwind (Recharge 4–6). Each creature in the elemental's space must make a DC 13 Strength saving throw. On a failure, a target takes 15 (3d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage and is flung up 20 feet away from the elemental in a random direction and knocked prone. If a thrown target strikes an object, such as a wall or floor, the target takes 3 (1d6) bludgeoning damage for every 10 feet it was thrown. If the target is thrown at another creature, that creature must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take the same damage and be knocked prone.
If the saving throw is successful, the target takes half the bludgeoning damage and isn't flung away or knocked prone.
Description
An air elemental is a funneling cloud of whirling air with a vague semblance of a face. It can turn itself into a screaming cyclone, creating a whirlwind that batters creatures even as it flings them away.
This looks crazy strong look forward to using it later on.
This is a lot of fun when you are a druid circle of the moon, I think that fire elementals are stronger though.
A cool idea:
"Invisible Tank: Mage Armor isn't just for wizards. It turns out that if you cast Mage Armor on a summoned Air Elemental, it hits AC 18, better than an Earth Elemental--and it still does just as much damage as an Earth Elemental too and is waaay more mobile (e.g. can do grapple + fly + drop). Consider this as a way to use up first-level spell slots efficiently."

Monk Unarmored Defense (WIS 3+) & Elemental Wild Shape = AC of 18+
Better than Earth Elemental
NO SPELL REQUIRED
why is this so fun with a druid?
I really like the DESERT Environment it has. Just imagine you're walking through a desert when you hear loud wind and you just see this mf whirling towards you.
gostei, uma ótima ideia
Gimbletop stared in amazement as the opaque vortex moved up the stairs slowly. Her twintails fluttered in her face distracting from observing the movement fully but it seemed like it was actually trying to be stealthy! Pressing herself against the wall underneath the bench she observed the vortex. What if the elemental senses in a 360 degree manner , the thought came unbidden. She felt her ears pop and realized the air pressure was dropping quickly - so fast she thought her heart was going to explode!
The conceit here is that air elementals in general have passive perception in a sphere of all gases around them at say, 60 feet for game balance. Hence the best way to hide from them might be to polymorph into something that doesn't exchange gases with the atmosphere, it might be interesting to think a warforge might be considered invisible to a air elemental. Also when thinking about the attacks - they don't need melee per se - they control air pressure - their attacks should be treated as force versus bludgeoning as they can use pressure changes as a means of attack instead of just a mighty buffet of wind. Think of a child who doesn't know their own strength and is playing with the world around them. Pressure changes are absorbed by the body differently depending upon the composition. Generally organs expand/contract at a different rate than the empty spaces - causing distress. This can be used to greatly surprise the new player and even the most jaded gamer.
I appreciate that Elementals are resistant to damage types associated with their element, but in the air elemental's case I imagine thunder damage (which can disrupt air) and lightning damage (ionize the air) would be the first two damage types I would go to logically to attack such a thing (other than say, force damage or good old magical weapons). I mean, it's resistant to thunder and lightning, but acid hurts it fine, even if it's not magical acid? Fire, sure I guess, only burns oxygen AFAIK but not total nonsense. Cold?... Wouldn't that just make cold air?
I can slash and stab this thing with magic weapons, melt(?) it with acid, freeze it, burn it, even whittle away at it with NON magical weapons. But if I try and scatter it's form with a thunderwave... it's on the same scale of effectiveness as stabbing it with a mundane rapier. Also, while this is a whole other conversation with balance reasons behind it and it'll still be halved, a rogue can hurt this thing with a mundane dagger or hand crossbow.
In this regard, I feel like treating Air Elementals resistances with the standard elemental resistance template is close to the opposite of what makes sense.
Then if you look at different thunder damage spells it get's a little trickier. If you look at Shatter, it makes perfect sense that it'd be highly effective against Earth Elementals and weak against these, but referencing thunderwave again,. one could imagine it passing harmlessly over the dense form of the rocky boy, and scattering this thing to the winds from whence it came.
And this is why I like it when I have players that let me improvise, + punish and reward them on a case by case basic for using their noggin.
Seeing as how I'm moving right away, I'm really nervous about trying to get new people on board with my style of play. I love DMing when I'm given the trust and freedom to run it my way.
Yeah but pure druid is amazing
woosh elemetal
Just gave my players a small airship, you know what that means boys and girls.
I’m making a class that rolls a d4 to transform into a random elemental when they get to a certain level, looking back on it is slightly op.
For referencing in balancing, Circle of the Moon gets the ability to turn into elementals at level 10 using their wild shape, so yeah, rolling a d4 and just transforming like that seems kinda powerful
Thanks for the reply it’s helpful. I scrapped that idea and made a new Druid that is still pretty good but not as op as that is. Well not until level 5.......
How stealthy is an Air Elemental?
Dex 20 would indicate 'very', and the description makes no mention of noise or disadvantage.
So as it is written, in an ill-lit environment an air elemental should be able to move at 90ft/turn pretty stealthily.
I would contend that while whirling implies a rotating mass of air, it doesn't say how fast that has to be.
Thoughts?
Question: As a Druid transformed into an Elemental, can I use my languages? I know I can't as an animal, but it seems feasible as an elemental.
From https://www.dndbeyond.com/sources/sac/sage-advice-compendium#ClassFeatures
I only found this out this week myself
Can a Circle of the Moon druid speak the languages it knows while in the form of an elemental?
Yes, since the elementals listed in Elemental Wild Shape can speak.
A literal interpretation (RAW) of Wild Shape could reasonably lead you to think that transformed druids can speak only languages that appear in an elemental’s stat block, but the intent (RAI) is that druids retain their knowledge, including of languages, when they transform and can speak the languages they know if an adopted form can speak.
Looks like a ghost
if there is a character inside air elemental and another character is on the square diagonally furthest away from this character, would they flank?
