Description
Taking its name from its crimson feathers and aggressive nature, the blood hawk fearlessly attacks almost any animal, stabbing it with its daggerlike beak. Blood hawks flock together in large numbers, attacking as a pack to take down prey.
CAW CAW!
Imagine being a beast master ranger and having this as your beast.
Had the one and my dm allowed me to armor it when I hit level 6. Using speak with animal and beast sense made him a much better scout and also spy for the group. Was able to better prepare for combat since it’s natural perception was at a 17 and the encounters the dm had set ambush spots dc to 16.
That's exactly what is happening in the campaign I'm in. I'm a lvl 3 half elf ranger beast master and I will hopefully get my beast companion this Friday in our nest session
Blood hawks seem like the best thing to flock up and kill my party. Just kidding. Sheesh, they believed me!
That's actually what i'm doing, i was looking through the beast catagory on monsters to look for my well, beast and saw this and was like YES!
Perfect!
I'm a druid with a companion ( DM decided it would be fun ) it is the best thing ever
That is exactly what I'm doing
Doing that right now after my wolf died, waiting for the next session to get the thing
Hmmm. Keen Sight and Pack Tactics, but the owl or flying snake might still be better. Sure it has a stronger attack, but is it really worth sacrificing one of YOUR OWN attacks just for this bird to deal 1d4 + 2 piercing damage (compared to a longbow, which does 1d8 + Dexterity modifier). Also, with your longbow attack, you would be able to apply several different bonuses (hunter's mark, Sharpshooter, Archery Fighting Style, etc.). The owl also gets Keen Sight, as well as 120 feet darkvision. Both the flying snake and the owl have the Flyby trait. Using the new beastmaster rules in TCoE, you can command your animal companion to take an action OTHER THAN ATTACKING as a bonus action WITHOUT SACRIFICING ONE OF YOUR OWN ATTACKS. Exploit this rule and command your pet to take the help action. The Beast of The Air Primal Companion gets Flyby as well as the owl, so you can use the animal to aid your own attacks without putting it in any severe danger.
I feel like rangers should be able to learn the find familiar spell. That way, they can get a smaller beast that isn't strong enough to contribute meanfully to taking down the enemy, but can perform a variety of other tasks (in and out of combat). If you just want a small bird friend, like and owl or raven, you could take the find familiar spell and not give up other powerful abilities. This would allow all rangers to have an animal companion, which makes a ton of sense.
precisely me :O
Yall Know these are based off of real Hawks Right. They are called Harris's Hawks in real life and yes they do group up. They have a redish crimson color and are the only birds of prey that Hunt in groups.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Playing a Druid in a "ghosts of saltmarsh" campaign and wanted to summon a 8 seagulls or geese, DM said to find something similar so I'm using this stat block
in my post apocoliptic campaign setting im useing these stats for blood thirsty trash seagulls.
My campinage likes dead people!
I’m using these stats for bloody-thirsty junkyard seagulls in my post-apocalyptic home brew
