Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 5 (1d6 + 2) piercing damage.
Constrict. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 6 (1d8 + 2) bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 14). Until this grapple ends, the creature is restrained, and the snake can't constrict another target.
Best. Ranger. Pet. EVER.
The constrictor snake is actually unable to be a Beast Master Ranger's pet, the ONLY thing restricting it is its size. BM Ranger says the companion can be no larger than medium.
who came here because there dm gave them a staff of the python
Nice
what happens when a druid summons 8 of these and they all use constrict? whats the outcome?
Death
We have an 8 ft boa constrictor. It's nice to know her stats.
painful and annoying for the DM... basically restrains the creature.. even higher levels.. this needs to be nerfed somehow....
Make it medium. Then it works wonderfully!
Turned into this tonight and trapped a werewolf, amazing!
My only question is why doesn't it have Hold Breath like the crocodile? It's especially weird since it says they can be found underwater too.
In nature, constricted creatures cannot breathe and die by suffocation. This stat block should include that as part of the snake's attack.
Hear me out........ If you Up-cast Conjure Animals to lvl 7/9, then command ALL of them to use constrict againest a higher lvl creature/enemy (of any size, because grapple can work on one size group above the attacker and large is the 2nd highest), more than one can restrain it and make it take MULTIPLE turns to break all the grapples. Furthermore, you command the snakes to move at half speed, which with 12 of 24 snakes at 9 lvl means 180 feet per second (15 feet times 12 snakes/30 feet times 6). Ok yes some of this might not work, but still.
I'm considering homebrewing this to make the constrict ability capable of doing its damage automatically once a creature is restrained to represent continued squeezing. It would have to use its constrict action again, just no attack roll. Just makes sense to me that it could do that. Think it would make it OP for it's rating?
I recognize that the wizards had made their decision, but due to it being a stupid ahh decision. I've elected to ignore it
Is the save on the creatures turn or as soon as the attack hits?
Eats stuffed bird bois
this wouldnt be her stats she is still a baby compared to this... i worked with a 22ft python and she wasn't 10ft across even loosely coiled....
Ah yes, the best friend of any Druid who wants to look at the DM and go "You know what? Screw your encounter!"
As a DM who currently has a druid spawn these every combat (24 of them), you're very very right.
