Their talking about the basic rules png that you can print out for free, don't know where you can find them in the books though you should be able to in monster manual
Thanks.
These monsters are the perfect start for your campaign!

The computation of the CR here is incorrect. Following the formulas in the DMG, this should be a CR 1/4 creature.
Interesting thought.
Considering their AC is 1 lower than the CR 1/8 creature in the DMG, their health is WELL below the CR 1/4 and even on the lower end of the 1/8. And they deal 1 more damage per round than the 1/8 I would definitely put these at a 1/8 NOT 1/4.
Yeah, it would seem that this creature would have a CR of 1/8, but its defensive CR is 1/8 while its offensive CR is 1/4. Averaging those (3/16) and rounding to the nearest CR (2/16 versus 4/16) gets to a CR of 4/16 = 1/4 (if rounding properly).
It's no big deal, but I happen to be converting a huge campaign from third edition at the moment, and I am finding that WoTC didn't follow their own CR computation scheme when building the creatures in the Monster Manual.
I use them as spam enemies late game i talk abaout like 20 of em
they look hard
