Angelic Weapons. The deva's weapon attacks are magical. When the deva hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 4d8 radiant damage (included in the attack).
Innate Spellcasting. The deva's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). The deva can innately cast the following spells, requiring only verbal components:
At will: detect evil and good
1/day each: commune, raise dead
Magic Resistance. The deva has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Multiattack. The deva makes two melee attacks.
Mace. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 18 (4d8) radiant damage.
Healing Touch (3/Day). The deva touches another creature. The target magically regains 20 (4d8 + 2) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness.
Change Shape. The deva magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating equal to or less than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the deva's choice).
In a new form, the deva retains its game statistics and ability to speak, but its AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and special senses are replaced by those of the new form, and it gains any statistics and capabilities (except class features, legendary actions, and lair actions) that the new form has but that it lacks.
The DC for Counterspell equals 10 + the spell's level, which is not the same as a spell save DC. Spell save DC is there in case somebody homebrews spells onto a deva.
Can it use healing touch on itself?
No it cannot because it specifically says “[t]he deva touches another creature”.
Absolutely. The Deva would probably treat the unicorn as something that needed to be respected and protected, based on the unicorn's innate healing magic and it being a pure and intelligent creature.
Healing touch requires a save. On a failed save it causes 1 level of exhaustion. However the Deva would have I think a +3 bonus for being over level 17 At least being immortal and godlike and celestial I assume he is over level 17 but I guess you can decide how long said celestial has been around...Maybe he is still trying to earn his wings like in its a wonderful life
Healing touch is not a save, nor does it cause exhaustion. ALL it does, is whats written on the statblock
If the deva used its shapechange ability to transform into a different form would it retain the Angelic Weapons ability? Because I am looking at one for a boss and it seems quite powerful to be able to polymorph itself at will and just get new hit points, especially since I am considering expanding the normal restrictions from polymorphing into only a huminoid or beast of equal challange rating to polymorphing into a monstrosity or dragon (considering it is an angel I think this would be just plain fun. It would also help show how the angel has been corrupted in a more visual way, especially if it tries to morph into the young gold dragon I have planned.) But that aside would it keep the angelic weapons trait?
Can you help me with this?
so the change shape ability doesnt give new hp, just ac and stuff that is explicitly stated like movement....so yes it would keep its angelic weapons
In case you want to homebrew it and give it spells that do.
I believe he may be asking, because going by Forgotten Realms lore, they do not leave anything behind.
"When a deva died on the Prime Material plane or the Elemental planes, all parts of their body, what clothes they wore, their weapons, and their other possessions vanished completely. Only their material body was destroyed, while their immortal spirit returned to their home plane. It took ten years to regain the power to manifest a corporeal form. If they died on any other plane, then they were destroyed utterly.
I really wanna homebrew an evil version of a Deva for my campaign. Does something similar to this already exist in official DND? If so where can I find it?
Closest I know of is the radiant idol in Eberron: Rising from the Last War.
Yeah, sounds amaaaaaayyyyy-zaaarrrgh!!!
Um... ing.
Sorry. Good night.
I’m thinking of running a corrupt angel storyline for my players using this and pointy hats hombre but knowing my players i know that they will just destroy everything no matter what side the angels are on
Probably, but it would literally just be a mace in the hands of any other creature. The radiant damage is from a trait it has.
I have a cool idea for an encounter that you can take the players somehow get into a underground fighting ring where there main attraction is for warriors in the crowd to fight a deva thats wings are bound together and unable to leave due to a powerful arcane binding that the mage that runs the place put on the deva so the party could try to free the deva or they could fight it for a quick buck
Sounds like it would still be really scary even with its wings bound together. Also, that mage should just make a super buff iron golem or something, and cut out the danger of it escaping and taking its revenge.
Probably for if it morphs into something that has inherent spellcasting.
