Angelic Weapons. The deva's weapon attacks are magical. When the deva hits with any weapon, the weapon deals an extra 4d8 radiant damage (included in the attack).
Innate Spellcasting. The deva's spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). The deva can innately cast the following spells, requiring only verbal components:
At will: detect evil and good
1/day each: commune, raise dead
Magic Resistance. The deva has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
Multiattack. The deva makes two melee attacks.
Mace. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d6 + 4) bludgeoning damage plus 18 (4d8) radiant damage.
Healing Touch (3/Day). The deva touches another creature. The target magically regains 20 (4d8 + 2) hit points and is freed from any curse, disease, poison, blindness, or deafness.
Change Shape. The deva magically polymorphs into a humanoid or beast that has a challenge rating equal to or less than its own, or back into its true form. It reverts to its true form if it dies. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying is absorbed or borne by the new form (the deva's choice).
In a new form, the deva retains its game statistics and ability to speak, but its AC, movement modes, Strength, Dexterity, and special senses are replaced by those of the new form, and it gains any statistics and capabilities (except class features, legendary actions, and lair actions) that the new form has but that it lacks.

More generally for Celestials and Fiends, they are usually banished to the Outer Planes when defeated. Equipment is usually left behind when this happens, which I think is what Icy meant by “dropped.”
Furthermore, when a creature is unexpectedly summoned, it often appears without all the cool magic items that ancient beings like angels are kitted out with.

In all previous editions when a summoned or gated creature manifests on the prime material plane with items and is dismissed or defeated, the summoned items disappear with the summoned body. In some extreme circumstances the weapon would even explode. If they came into possession of an item while on the prime then of course that would remain but you can't summon a Deva to get a free mace or conjure a Bearded Devil for a complimentary Glaive. If you want their actual stuff you have to go to their home plane to get it.

Posted Nov 8, 2020Great point, I was very unclear in my previous post. I was just trying to justify the use of the term “dropped” to describe loot from outsiders.
I’m not sure what the official ruling is, but the way I’ve heard it is that it depends on how the outsider arrived on your plane, and that always made sense to me.
You are absolutely correct that a summoned creature does not leave behind equipment. However, if the Celestial or Fiend traveled between planes like a mortal might, using things like natural portals and gates, it is likely to leave something behind when defeated.
That’s just my own ruling, I hope I don’t come off as passing it for official materials.

Posted Jan 20, 2021Spell Save DC is calculated automatically for any creature that has Innate Spellcasting. Even if it doesn't possess spells that require saves, it still has a Save DC of 17, 8 + Prof. Bonus + Spellcasting Ability Modifier. This makes it easier when adjusting a creature that has Innate Spellcasting to give it other spells.
