Posted Feb 19, 2020RAW, no. Would doing so break your game? Probably not.
I'd say go for it, but check with your DM first. 😉

Posted Feb 4, 2021The animals in the spell's description are EXAMPLES so ask your DM what is available to you, the book isn't meant to limit you.

Posted Sep 17, 2024As of 2024, yes you can.
RAW Find Familiar now tells us, "You gain the service of a familiar, a spirit that takes an animal form you choose: Bat, Cat, Frog, Hawk, Lizard, Octopus, Owl, Rat, Raven, Spider, Weasel, or another Beast that has a Challenge Rating of 0."
If you're in the Waterdeep setting, you could also theoretically summon a Haungharassk, which is a HUGE snail creature with 52 HP, 20 STR, 6 AC, and 10' move speed. It has no attacks but can be a great obstacle for blocking doors or bridges while your party escapes.
Onyx is another Huge cat beast, which happens to be unkillable and has a move speed of 400'. With a dash, it hits 91 MPH. The ultimate mobile wall. But as it's from a joke content book and is a unique/named creature, I can't imagine any DM in the world would let it be used in any serious campaign.
