Trampling Charge. If the gorgon moves at least 20 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a gore attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 16 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the gorgon can make one attack with its hooves against it as a bonus action.
Gore. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 18 (2d12 + 5) piercing damage.
Hooves. Melee Weapon Attack: +8 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 16 (2d10 + 5) bludgeoning damage.
Petrifying Breath (Recharge 5–6). The gorgon exhales petrifying gas in a 30-foot cone. Each creature in that area must succeed on a DC 13 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, a target begins to turn to stone and is restrained. The restrained target must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn. On a success, the effect ends on the target. On a failure, the target is petrified until freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.
Kind of a misleading name, if you ask.
It gores you and then you gon' be stone mate.
I honestly think that its monster type should be construct, but I am not a game designer...
DMNovice. I'm pretty sure back when this creature was made, the people who wrote the game had no idea about Gorgons. The monster race they call Medusas shoud've been called Gorgons, cause that's what they are, but I think that the writers didn't know a lot about Greek Mytologi at the time, and ended up calling Gorgons, Medusas cause of her name. Medusa and her 2 sisters Stheno and Euryale in Greek mythology were once beautiful women but was cursed and turned into Gorgons by Athena, after Poseidon raped Medusa in Athenas temple.
I don't remember it being a ****
The Historie of Foure-Footed Beastes
It's a book from 1607, in once chapter describes the Lybian Beast, or as it was locally known, a Gorgon. Which is a metallic skinned bull capable of breath petrification and whose stomps can cause tremors.
I was expecting a Greek Mythology version, the name is misleading.
The thing is that only Medusa has snakes on her head. Her two sisters have wing and feathers, so i guess it is preferable for them to create a new race by that name f it only has a specific feature.
Am I the only one who thinks this is pretty strong for a CR5 monster?
Yes, this is very powerful for a CR5 monster, but the whole challenge rating system is pretty broken.
Who is here after watching Critical Role? :P I assume Matt's version will be beefed up a tad bit :P Also, anyone who recieved his first lesson in mythical creatures from Heroes 3 would not be surprised nor mislead by this name :)
Thank you Sziity that's clearly what a gorgon looks like but Matt's version is clearly way nastier
Week after, but, here I am!
That was bad, and you should feel bad... I’d say take your upvote/like, if we could upvote/like on dnd beyond.
Yeah, I came here to read about those legendary actions but that was apparently Matt's additions :)
So change it and make it a homebrewed version
Nice to know what the reference material was, found plenty of different details about how 'gorgon' is a short form for a chimera like demon or reptile... so what were some of the other beasts in the book? *is lazy about searching it*
If it is made of metal why isn't it vulnerable to lightning attacks?
cause not all metals conduct electricity
Well, iron most certainly does. And according to the first sentence under Horrific Structure ...
