Limited Telepathy. The otyugh can magically transmit simple messages and images to any creature within 120 feet of it that can understand a language. This form of telepathy doesn't allow the receiving creature to telepathically respond.
Multiattack. The otyugh makes three attacks: one with its bite and two with its tentacles.
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 12 (2d8 + 3) piercing damage. If the target is a creature, it must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw against disease or become poisoned until the disease is cured. Every 24 hours that elapse, the target must repeat the saving throw, reducing its hit point maximum by 5 (1d10) on a failure. The disease is cured on a success. The target dies if the disease reduces its hit point maximum to 0. This reduction to the target's hit point maximum lasts until the disease is cured.
Tentacle. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage plus 4 (1d8) piercing damage. If the target is Medium or smaller, it is grappled (escape DC 13) and restrained until the grapple ends. The otyugh has two tentacles, each of which can grapple one target.
Tentacle Slam. The otyugh slams creatures grappled by it into each other or a solid surface. Each creature must succeed on a DC 14 Constitution saving throw or take 10 (2d6 + 3) bludgeoning damage and be stunned until the end of the otyugh's next turn. On a successful save, the target takes half the bludgeoning damage and isn't stunned.
Otyughs are rarely found in groups of more than four individuals, and are often solitary.
They make deals with other dungeon denizens, agreeing not to attack them in exchange for their dung and body wastes, which they then devour. To keep the supply of waste coming (and to get fresh meat) they will agree to help defend their home against intruders, which includes many adventurers. Otyughs may be persuaded not to attack creatures in exchange for promises of friendship and food. Neo-otyughs are less trusting (and more vicious), and usually attack intruders on sight. An otyugh's dungeon allies will sometimes ask it to guard treasure for them.
Otyughs mate each year for one month, with one offspring produced. It takes the newborn four months to mature.
Can I just say that first, having the pronounciation/speaker option for monster names is a godsend, and that second, having the cast of Critical Role involved makes it one thousand percent better?! Thanks so much!
#same
Why does a monster that eats all kinds of waste and refuse have no resistance to poison damage or the poison condition. I think it should be immune to both; a decent con save just doesn't sell the idea of an alien trash monster.
I'm so thankful for the pronunciation, I was saying it SO wrong
Without the tentacles, this thing is really cute. Can i have one? Please?
It sounds like: Ohdia.
So, does the Tentacle Slam ability take up an entire action, or does it take the place of one/both of the tentacle attacks depending on whether or not the tentacles have got something grappled?
It is a whole action, not part of the multiattack.
I love that it sounds kinda like "Oh, yuck." Also I want one.
I thought it was like that too, I thought it was like Ut-yug but the pronunciation thing says it Otee-ugh
and it's wrong, according to Ed Greenwood it's pronounced oht-yug. I'd go with Ed.
Not gonna lie. I kinda find him to be cute
I’m in a campaign where we have an otyugh as an amazing boss. I enjoyed fighting it so much
RAW yes, but its a relatively harmless homebrew
These are pretty much Abberant pigs
Im wanting to run an encounter/mini boss fight where an Otyugh is luring travellers on a road to its lair by sending out cries for help with its telepathy. Is a there a magic item or another way i could boost the range of its telepathy significantly in game without just increasing the range myself?
You could potentially use a group of Will-O-Wisps to divert characters within range.
My otyughs have unionized and will go on strike from time to time if not fed the prime muck. As an intelligent neutral creature with the ability to communicate they could easily come to an understanding with a civilized population to perform the tasks others don't want to do.
That's kinda sick
