Traits
Amorphous. The shadow can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing.
Shadow Stealth. While in dim light or darkness, the shadow can take the Hide action as a bonus action.
Sunlight Weakness. While in sunlight, the shadow has disadvantage on attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws.
Actions
Strength Drain. Melee Weapon Attack: +4 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 9 (2d6 + 2) necrotic damage, and the target's Strength score is reduced by 1d4. The target dies if this reduces its Strength to 0. Otherwise, the reduction lasts until the target finishes a short or long rest.
If a non-evil humanoid dies from this attack, a new shadow rises from the corpse 1d4 hours later.
You can be fighting 10 shadows and all you need is a level 5 cleric and WHY DOES SUNLIGHT ONLY WEAKEN THEM IT SHOULD KILL THEM
Since a shadow is Two Dimensional, and only takes up the 2-D space it's in, just summon fire inside of it. It can't exactly go around the flames like we can, but this is D&D, not real life.
this is a *****ass monster that i hate
Some homebrew can fix this.
Spell Tag of Radiance
These elongated, miniature spell scrolls are inscribed with intricate arcane symbols and seem designed to be affixed to a weapon. The tags are thin and flexible, crafted from a parchment-like material that almost hums with untapped power. Each one glows with an ethereal light, faintly pulsing as if imbued with lingering magic.
When you wrap a Spell Tag of Radiance around the hilt of a sword or tie it around the shaft of a bow, the tag is absorbed by the weapon, channeling radiant energy through it. For the duration of your next short rest, the weapon gains the ability to deal radiant damage (in Lieu of it's typical damage), infusing each strike with bright, holy energy that burns through shadows and evil. The radiant damage is not just symbolic—it sears enemies vulnerable to light, making it especially potent against creatures such as undead, demons, or any being tied to the Shadowfell.
Each Spell Tag of Radiance can only be used once. The effects last until the end of the next short rest, offering a temporary but powerful enhancement that can turn the tide of battle against creatures of darkness.
While its low CR might suggest it's suitable for low-level adventures, remember that the Shadow's Strength Drain ability can easily lead to a TPK for your player party. I highly recommend offering players some ways to mitigate this threat. For example, you could hint that the Shadow is vulnerable to radiant damage, or, as a more extreme solution, reduce the Strength drain to just 1 point per hit."
Brilliant! The Spell Tag of Radiance, courtesy of ChatGPT, only works while you are taking a short rest, making it completely useless! Once you start fighting something, you are no longer taking a short rest, so it does nothing! I suggest the Sun Blade. It actually works.
