Pounce. If the allosaurus moves at least 30 feet straight toward a creature and then hits it with a claw attack on the same turn, that target must succeed on a DC 13 Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. If the target is prone, the allosaurus can make one bite attack against it as a bonus action.
Actions
Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 15 (2d10 + 4) piercing damage.
Claw. Melee Weapon Attack: +6 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 8 (1d8 + 4) slashing damage.
Description
The allosaurus is a predatory dinosaur of great size, strength, and speed. It can run down almost any prey over open ground, pouncing to pull creatures down with its wicked claws.
Just noticed T-Rex stole Allosaurus's picture
This beefed-up tiger of a statblock is wimpy for a creature that weighed around 2 tons. A lot smaller than a T-Rex, but a horrifyingly powerful creature to have to fight. It's a mini t-rex, that should be stronger than a polar bear.
What kind of saddle would you need if you were going to ride this thing?
Most definitely an exotic saddle as detailed in PHB chapter 5
Thanks, now here is an idea: allosaurus with a circlet of intellect, being a wizard with another player riding him/it
*ShaydyCharacter* You said it. It's like with a crocodile and an alligator. Is an alligator smaller? Yes. Is it still just as dangerous? Absolutely.
Not to mention the Pounce trait is just one of those cases of 'where the heck did that come from'. Personally I don't think a more than 2 ton creature could manage more than a simple hop, let alone a pounce. I mean I get that it may have been an ambush predator, or a rushdown one, but either way the Pounce trait doesn't fit it. It's not a raptor.
Okey, how high the ceilings should be to fit these things + rider in it?
Speaking of riding dinosaurs, I'm currently writing a one-shot where my players will encounter a triceratops, tame it (hopefully) and charge down some allosaurs and maybe a T-rex.
I just Googled it. They could jump.
I think it should be thought more along the lines of, if it claps you when running directly at you you're gonna get your ass knocked the **** over rather than it literally jumps you, y'know?
It says "it might, keep in mind, MIGHT, be safe to say it could jump." That gives no solid proof.
Fair enough, but then why give it the name "Pounce". Something like "Rushdown" would fit better in this case.
I understand that a full-on jump may not be entirely possible, but they were agile little buggers. A pounce is almost a guarantee, considering how they lived and what they were built like.
nice dragon
Yall have no idea how tempted I am to go ahead and say, 'As you enter the crater, an ALLOSAURUS pack jump at you' Dinosaurs have never even existed in my campaign.

I made the mistake of giving my (2) players (both level 3) the choice to choose their own mount, with the exception of a CR of 2 or under. Their mount was this...
Currently playing a moon druid and the DM allows me to wild shape into an allosaurus. It's completely OP lol
it wants meat
