Why should i be allowed to throw this at characters during the Frozen Sick campaign? Average party of 4 lvl2 is all going to get oneshot here
My party of 4 lvl2 killed it in one round. It's not difficult.
It really depends on the party, but in statistics, a young remorhaz is more than twice a deadly encounter for a party of four level 2 characters, so in general, not a great idea. 3 out of 4 party members are melee? They're gonna die from their own attacks lol.
We had a party of 1 lvl1 for Frozen Sick. It didn't go well...
imagine a lvl 20 going at this thing with poison
The burrow speed is incorrect here -- it should be 20 ft. instead of 30 ft.
Just because Frozen Sick is recommended for 1st/2nd level characters and lists this as a random encounter doesn't necessarily mean you should throw it at them.
These sorts of high level random encounters are typically to provide material for a more experienced group, since any campaign can be scaled to meet your group needs.
I would either remove/replace it or have it be an easier fight because it is already wounded, or just a young one (doing less dmg), or maybe even enlist the help of a previously encountered griffin (natural enemies?) or that wearbear dwarf ;)
I would be curious how four level 2 characters managed to do 90 damage in single round? Its not many characters that can do 20 damage in a round at level 2.
I find your lack of faith disturbing. I think with the right party composition and tactics, a team of 4 level 2s can overcome one of these... one.
I know right?
its my party’s first time playing and I’m throwing something at them that just instant kills our wizard. It just feels unfair. What I’m doing is saying that it’s weak and it’s health and damage are lower because of it
Two of these things fought a level 7 party of 3, a druid, wizard, and fighter, with all of us having +0 or less to constitution, meaning if both attacked one player they could easily kill them in a single round. The druid had a maximum of 17 hp due to really bad constitution, and they were the only one that could deal heavy damage (my most reliable wizard spells were firebolt and fireball, with these things being immune to both). There was supposed to be a barbarian with us, but they had to leave before we could fight them, and I honestly don't know if it would have gone any better with their anti-melee damage.
It honestly would have been a TPK, if the DM hadn't said they would half one of their health points as long as I used a charge on my wand of wonder on it next turn.
One of these on its own, kind of a challenge, but fairly simple, depending on your party. Having two of them face us was far more difficult than I anticipated.
If the poor souls happen to roll a 6 in the Frozen Sick campaign, the solution is to RUN
People think that you can take this on? Nope. Unless all characters are good in ranged combat, and the DM can fudge the terrain in your advantage.
This ambush is something you have to run from, so get the DM to communicate the danger of this beast as much as possible.
I just scaled it down for a 3 lvl 1 party so they dont just die.
I ran this from a random encounter table for my frozen sick starter
My party are all very experienced DnD players and were aghast when they saw it was a Remhoraz, a lot of "we got no chance against this".
I scaled it by dropping some HP and making the fire damage 1d4 when my party beat they were all jumping for joy. its about using it an a way that fits your campaign these stats are just guidelines. If it fits your narrative and your players are engaged, Run it!
My party’s Blood Hunter just kept it from moving using a blood curse while everyone else threw stuff at it
My party befriended it...they now have a remorhaz pet....
Lol I’m running the Frozen Sick campaign rn and I honestly kinda hope I roll a 6. I had a longgggg fight in the middle of the journey to Eiselcross rather than skip 9 days so I decided to level them up even though it didn’t tell me to. Now that there is 5 level 4s in the group I think they’d be able to take it
EDIT After inspecting the sheet more I take back everything I said in this comment
It’s armour is enchanted with thorns 3
aaaaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
My Druid cheesed this with his boa constrictor staff (that he was given a bit too early) restraining it then just hitting it with crap I was so disappointed when my big fight was over in two rounds
